Several questions, also value

Hello,
1) Is it possible to do an ownership search if you have a VIN?
2) How do you know if the engine/tranny are matched with the VIN?

3) Valuation on 1969T with 160K on the clock, 15K on engine/tranny, decent paint that shines up in an orange color, totally original clean interior, good docs back 15 years (how long he present owner has had it), not much before then, no easily spottable rust, drives straight, good compression/leakdown/mechanicals? Excellence gives range of 11.5 to someting like 15. Sounds high to me, as last year the guy was asking $8400, but this year $11.4.

Thanks
Scott

1. I dunno. It probably depends on whether the state the car was in is willing to give out the info.

2. Post the numbers on the tech page. Also, there are books giving this info as far as whether the numbers are proper for the car's VIN. If you are talking about the exact items the car was built with? Only spending $ for a certificate of authenticity will tell, and I've read posts complaining of errors with these.

3. Value is always based on condition. Condition, and, well, condition. Excellence's values are a rough guidline at best. Rebuilt engines as transmissions are only as good as the skill of the rebuilder. For example, there is a heavily advertised engine builder with the initials of MM that has countless customer complaints...
