value of 79 930 with issues
 

Okay, with the knowledge that I may be putting it up for sale on this board, I'll risk the question.
My '79 930 has developed serious engine issues. I don't have the skills/time/tools to rebuild it myself and am not sure I want to commit the money into rebuilding or replacing the engine. I just got into house payments and a child due to arrive in Sept. I have also dumped a bunch of money into this car already and am not sure I want to have a 45,000.00 car worth 24,000.00. I have new torsion bars in it, with poly bushings, I spent 8,000.00 in paint and body work, having replaced the hood, boot lid, sunroof and both doors. I still have the original parts in my possession, but they would need work to make good, it was just cheaper to get used pieces in better shape.
What would it need? Engine rebuild obviously, some suspension tweaking w/ new shocks most likely. The guy that corner balanced it for me made it handle strangely (at least I think that is why). The pedal box will need work, and well hey....it's a 1979.
The odometer broke at around 29,000 miles, but the mechanic who I purchased it from has known the car most of it's life and says it has around 50,000 miles on it.
So, at the risk of getting low balled by interested parties ;) how much would this be worth?
By the way, the car and I are no longer in Hawaii.

Well, I guess the way to appraise it is to look at what it would sell for fixed & subtract.

So start with $28K maybe. Less rebuild etc.

I've seen running turbos go for $30K, and I've seen them go for $12K too. Engine issues are a serious problem, and will immediately decrease the value of the car by about $10K from where it would have been, if a full rebuild is needed...

Thanks guys, that was what I was figuring as well. I certainly couldn't just subtract the 10g's from what I have into it!! Who'd buy a $20,000 930 with a blown engine?! :D But I really don't know what's wrong with the engine for sure. I will most certainly find out before I go and do something really stupid.

930 are very difficult to sell for the same reason you need to sell yours. You can buy nice 930's all day long for 25-30K. The best thing to do is shop for a used motor, have it installed and sell car. There are not many motor issues with 930's that don't require a full rebuild, figure about 12-15K for that.
