72/84 sporto frankenporsche - is this crazy

As I get more interested in track time, I'm hesitating to really track out my 82 SC with a rollbar, stripped interior, etc. I've been looking for a project. Am going to look at a 72, with 84 donor parts including 3.2 with webers, fenders, suspension interior. The guy was a sporto fanatic that had the conversion done to mate the 3.2 to the sporto. The cars been sitting for a few years, he indicates no rust, etc. Car supposedley has a fabulous paint job. Was all professionally done. We'll see. I'm taking my personal guru with me to make sure I don't screw up.

He's asking $7,500 which even if I had to part it out seems like a can't screw up kind of deal. If it's in good shape, I'll want to convert it to a 915 and sell off the sporto.

Am I crazy to be considering this?

There are a lot of miscellaneous parts you'll need to convert to 915, but you can probably do it for $3K or so. It's best if you can swing a wrench yourself.

If it were near me, I'd be on it in a heartbeat at that price.
