After 6 months of searching, think i found my car....thoughts?

Been looking all year, finally found something that I am 99% sure about.

1980 SC Targa black/black- 108k, three owners, top-end rebuild, newer clutch/trans work...a bunch of history...one small oil leak where oil tube enters tank due to wrong tube used by a shop that is now out of business, other than that dry. ac doesnt work but no big deal, probably finish up at a price around $12k.

Another mechanic in the area, who did a ppi for me earlier this year has been servicing the car and said it is a great car and it is a good deal.

Dont really feel like bothering with a PPI based on his recommendation as he would tell me if it was a basketcase, but not sure if i should or not. Even if there were problems, I think the price would not get any lower.

Thoughts....

I think 12,000 is a very good deal since it has a top-end rebuild and new clutch and you know the mechanic that has been servicing the car.

I would still have a 3rd party shop perform a PPI just in case.

Good luck

Leakdown test seems OK.

Have the other issues been attended to since the PPI was completed two years ago?

Front wheel bearings, hood shocks, fan belt , pop-up valve are all pretty simple and cheap and shocks are not to hard to change out.

I'd go for it. That leakdown was pretty recent and it sounds like it was well taken car of. Post pics when you pick it up!

I wouldn't trust a 2 year old owner provided PPI. At minimum I'd want the compression and headstuds check again even if it cost $200.

yes, 10K would have been a steal, but got tired of looking for a "deal".

Car is home, in the garage after a long uneventful drive down the NJ Turnpike.

First thing it needs a good washing and cleaning, then fix the only current oil leak, oil line from engine to oiltank, tighten up the shifter, replace the smile, decide on removing or fixing the a/c, etc, etc.....oh the joy of used car purchases.

There must be at least $50k worth of receipts for this thing. I cant figure out if that is a good thing, a bad thing, or just a normal thing.
