wow. Nice. being #10 of 11 might be helping the $141,000 current bid...

platas 08-19-2006 04:39 PM

that cheap, its a 250 K car or more!

911quest 08-19-2006 06:24 PM

Whats up with the shifter knob is it not a 901 gearbox?

Todd Simpson 08-19-2006 07:12 PM

The 916's used a 915 converted for mid-engine use.

pu911 08-19-2006 07:15 PM

The 916 had a 915 box

Well when you figure how rare they compared to how comman the RS's are I think that's pretty cheap.

Its been on sale in the trade , and on the net, for at least three years now.

And on ebay at least once too..bid to IIRC 350k no sale..

The only real one I ever saw in regular use was also in San Francisco. It was a dark maroon with leather interior. The front bumper was broken from parallel parking. I could not persuade the owner to sell. It belonged to the owner of a shop called Peter and Wolf near the panhandle.

I think most had '73 S engines, not RS.

I emailed the ebay link to a friend who loves 14-6's. I found his response interesting... That owners of real 916's suffer the same problem that owners of real Cobras do...too many clones out there spoiling the brew. I suppose one could say the same about the RS?

LOL.

If RSs are being 'spoiled' at only $150K or so, and Cobras at only $750K or so (both price points for less-than-stellar cars), what would an 'unspoiled' value be?

My friend wasn't referring to the money aspect...but the constantly having to answer the "real or replica" question.

The defining element is the steel roof...I wonder if anyone has replicated that?

pwd72s 08-20-2006 08:01 PM

The roof wouldn't be all that difficult to replicate for a skilled panelbeater. To explain my post above more? Price is determined by numbers. Value is a perception with no hard definition.

Gosh, what a terrible thing to have to go through. Must be traumatic having to answer such mundane questions!
