Hi,
I think pricing is tricky for this car, because the 2.7 1977 US car was the least desirable of all 911's between 74 and 89, due to the smog equipment that both didn't work and crippled horsepower. Also you must have aftermarket wide body (Turbo) flares are they fiberglass or steel, and how well was it done? I don't have this year's Excellence but for 05 a (US) 1977 goes between 9,395 - 14,300 depending on condition. I have seen 1 1977 advertised for 9,000 and one 1977 advertised for 15,000 recently. Often abused 1977s go for even less - 7-8k. You may want to also post your engine details in the engine building forum to ask about how much the engine is worth alone - it may be worth 6-8k alone on the used market. Engine-less shells go for 3k or so, and tranny for 1-2k so that suggests about 12k total. Hopefully this gives you some ballpark. Despite your receipts it isn't coming to 20k so you are "upside down". Don't feel bad because if you read the book "The gold plated Porsche" this guy spent 100k on his car worth book-value 12k. If you post detailed pics and info in the for sale section here, you may be able to find someone who appreciates all that work/receipts and offers you more. There is a market for highly restored Porsches with better-than-factory paint etc but I don't know if you car falls into this category. Good luck and post some pics here and in the for sale section if you are selling!

I recommend you check with TRE Motorsports on the value of this car.
It is a highly desirable model AFAIK.

Were factory widebodies available in 1977?
I have heard rumors of SC's been available from the factory in this configuration (before Porsche officially offered the M491 option), but as early as 1977?? |

3.0 Carrera
There is one for sale at Fantasy Junction w/ nice mods for low 20's. Another that is on ebay w/ no bids starting @ $11K.
It's a narrow niche right now for your car here in the states. They are more respected in the European market. |

I think you need to clarify "widebody".
The 1974-1977 cars were typically called "narrow body" cars in the US. The exceptions are the '74-'75 Carerra's which had the same rear flares later used on the SC and 3.2 Carerra models. Widebody often refers to "turbo body" or "turbo look" fender flares. Now, IIRC the '77 Euro 3.0L had the same body style as the SC models. I think the "desire" for these cars came from the fact that their 3.0L factory motors were rated at 200hp, while the US 3.0L SC's were rated at 172-180hp depending upon the source you quote. Plus, they may be 50-100lbs lighter than a comparable US SC given the luxuries a US market car would come with. Given all the work that has gone into the vehicle, it's current condition is key in determining value. Sadly, whoever put in such a high monetary investment should NOT plan on seeing a $ for $ return. So, despite nearly $20K invested, it may still only be a $15K car.

Thanks racer you are right about getting dollar for dollar, fun factor always has to be considered on any project like this, when they get close to being done always looking for the next one in line.Has been a hobby since early age. Always thought the fun was in the build..and maybe a little road time,
