1972 911 "R" value
 

I'm looking at this car on e-bay. this would be my first porsche and just found this site, and I figured I could get some help here.

Anyways, I have an appointment today to look at the car, to drive it an put it up on a lift, but wanted to have an idea on the value before I make an offer on it.

The guy says he just finidhed the project and an oportunity for a better home came up and wants to sell

I'm thinking low to mid $20's.

Great looking car. You have to wonder why a guy would spend oodles of money repainting, refreshing the suspension, redoing the interior, detailing the engine and THEN sell it right away???? People are strange. I also don't like the salvage title or the fact that he had to put it on ebay to get rid of it....I personally don't love the yellow (too much attention, the car is hot enough) but if it's the original color as he claims, then I guess it's okay. Find out more about the salvage title....

Most people will tell you to buy the newest P-car you can afford and they probably are right. Personally, my 72 is my first p-car and it has been great. But be prepared for a lot of work and patience as these cars are 30+++ years old. That car looks like a sweet example but likely will go in the $25-30K range if everything is kosher.

IMO this is NOT a $25k + car. I like it but no way is it worth that kind of dough.

somebody bought a tired T, slapped a paint job and $1,000 worth of stickers and lights on it and cleaned all the parts. this is a great lesson on how to be a flipper.

i still really like the car though.

I just talked to the owner and it doesn't have a salvage title, it is a clear title from colorado the guy just made a mistake on the listing, he also listed the fuel type as steam

He said he was going to correct it right away

He was asking advice on the hinges to use. Said he was building it for someone else and the owner was budget minded. He has edited the thread to remove any pictures and references.

Hmmm....wonder why. I'd ask him directly.

I'd guess that the seller of the car was not the person who posted here. The person who posted here was more likely the guy doing the work.

As the add supposedly says, the owner needed to bail to clear up funds for a house purchase. Nothing inherently shady to any of the story from what I can tell.

I agree, could be up and up. Could be just coincidence that the poster has a 72 yellow T listed in his signature.

I was just trying to give a new guy looking for his first Porsche as much info as possible. Ebay is a very scary place. Point is Manny now has another source of information on the car.

I actually interpreted the seller in the ebay add as the builder which leads me back to the thread. I have no axe to grind either way.

Hypothetically, if a guy tells you one story and tells a different story to somewhere else would you trust what he tells you about a car he has for sale?

Manny, if you do get a PPI I would suggest someone independent and not someone suggested by the seller. Good luck. If anything you show great taste in the IDEA of your dream car.

I looked at the car today as far as rust there is none, the engine runs strong no smoke but I'm going to have Jones do a PPI, the car looks nice, I talked to the guy and he is not the guy that did the work it was a project done by anothe pelicanite in San Antonio. I will try to contact the guy and have a talk with him. He probably knows the car better.

general question on 'R' look cars. if you were going to the trouble to repaint a car how much would it add to the cost to use 'R' glass fenders vs. the 'insert'?

As far as the fender issue...it all depends if that fender was removed for painting or not. Since the seller seemed to be on a tight budget he probably could not afford two new fenders plus the fit work for them.

No It wasn't me unfortunatly, I couldn't get a deal done before the auction ended, it was a nice little car a lot of fun to drive

well you probably don't want to rush such a thing anyways. too bad.
