89 Speedster with some mileage.....

I'm thinking about buying an 89 Speedster with 70k. I really haven't seen any of these sell lately, especially with some mileage. It's black/black with tan interior. I haven't seen it yet but he claims it's just about a "10". Assuming everything checks out, what is a fair price?

Steve,

Can't comment on the price (check out EXCELLENCE's Market Updates), but considering the car is 18 years old, it was driven on average less than 4K a year. If he's the original owner, and is located in your area, that would explain the low mileage (seasonal driving). What kind of records does he have - that will tell you how the car's been looked after.

Speedster prices remain high (esp compared to other rare ones like the M491 widebody cars). I would expect, even with high mileage, a price range of $30-40K. Lower mile ones consistently "ask" in the 50K range. Not sure what true transaction prices are, mind you.

Even though 70K miles is a lot for a "speedster" it is nothing for the actual motor. Assuming valve guide issues aren't an issue, the motor should be good for 150K miles before needing a rebuild.

Get a PPI and be prepared to pay thru the nose for any "speedster specific" parts (like windhshield, the top, etc)

Garage
Destined to be one of the most desireable production models
produced in Porsche history, IMO.
