What can I get....

Looking to buy a first 911 and I have between $5K to $7K to
play with. I was thinking 1970 to 1975 model years for the money.
A weekend car to drive and occasionally tinker with. Is it possible.
Any seasoned opinions.......Thanks

It will be very hard to find a 911 for that price range that doesn't need alot of additional time/money invested to make it run properly and reliably.

911's were not and are not cheap.

A 1970 911t was a $6,000 car when new (which might translate to about $60K today). Luckily (sarcasm), the motors cost about $6-8K to rebuild; Transmissions/clutches are about $2500 ea. to rebuild. Suspension? depends what you need.. Rust repair? "priceless"... I think you get my drift.

For that range expect to find a fully clapped out, high mileage that will need work. May or may not be currently working.

Of the 1970-1975 years, 1974-77 would be the least expensive, (due to desireability) but had troublesome motors. Most would have been rebuilt once over the years, but then again, they are 30+ years old!

I don't wish to squash your dream, but be prepared!

How true

I have driven several in that price range. Either great drivetrains
with rust issues or visa versa. They are out there just have to be quick in snapping one up. Overall, I'll have to agree with you.
Thanks
