Soft Window Targa - Possible value?
I've known about the blue soft window for about 20 years. It once belonged to a friend. Last week I came across this sad site as the car(s) rot in a pasture. Assuming that it's pretty ratty - which it seems to be, does anyone have any idea of its potential value? It was imported in the 80's but I don't know which 911 it is. In any case, it is a sad situation.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1165616400.jpg

Neat picture... But sad too.
An "open" car sitting out, exposed, that is nearly 40 years old, may not even be worth pursuing. Sorry i can't place a value on it. But to make it "right" will cost Tens of Thousands of dollars. It should be "free" if only because you are getting it off their property. I think it would be a safe assumption that there is a bit of rust ;) |
I'm planning to ask permission to take some closer photos. It is sad to see but with the other Porsche in the background - it makes a rare photo opportunity. I'd also like to get the VIN # - just to know what it is, or was. Thanks for your reply - Who knows, a free, useless Porsche isn't all bad...I'm sure my wife would understand...maybe I'll just get some more good photos.

Maybe those driving lights could be rare???

Where is this car in Wyoming? If you are not interested in buying, I sure would be.

Even as parts cars, there are some valuable pieces on them, particularly the soft top parts. The lights are Cibie (or Marchal) "hood mount" (as they are often referred to) rally lights. It was common to see them fender mounted just above the horn grills on Euro cars.
If you get permission, see if you can get the serial numbers on that coupe....it looks pretty early as well. regards, Eric 67S soft window targa Aga blue 67S soft window targa Polo red and a few others..... |
I tried stopping by the house nearby Saturday - no luck. I'll keep trying and see if the owners let me get closer than the fence. No sign of mean dogs or firearms - so that's good. I'll keep this posting updated as I learn more. It's not often that Porsches are put "out to pasture" and left to the elements.

As mentioned, the soft window assembly is really valuable. I bought an entire car (and it wasn't cheap) just to get those parts for my '67.
Being a Euro car, it was probably a rust bucket before it got left outside. |
I tried to contact the owner over the weekend - no luck yet. I will try again - but it may be after the holidays. Thanks to all that have replied and have shown interest. I will keep following up to get answers.

The color is, I believe, Gulf Blue. It is not very common and is considered very retro. Soft windows are considered super cool now in Europe so the value of the car to that market would be considerable, especially with the dollor so low to the Euro. The Fuchs and fenders look ok and the bumpers and lids are worth something as well. If water sat inside all those years the interior must be completely shot including seats, dash and floorpan. The motor might be good for some parts too.

SWT values
There is a 68 912 up for auction at RM in Phoenix next month.Looks to be the same car that sold there last year for 28-29K,"estimated"to go for 30-40K.There is a 67S at Sloans for 50K so they are all over the board, but these are done.I can`t believe you could take that car and put it in show condition for those dollars.Upside down wouldn`t even begin to describe it!

i need one of the soft window handles that are under the targa bar if you do end up getting it for parts.

sloan car
That 67S SWT at Sloan`s is ,I believe the same car that was for sale about 5 years ago for 85K which was ,at the time over priced.Looks like he is back to his old form as to being out in front of the market.I know people back east have seen it as it has been shown somewhere. The market for that has to be limited to residents of Dubai at this point. TFM
