What would you value this 84 Coupe at
1984 Porsche Carrera coupe w/sunroof. 36,200 miles. Slate blue metallic w/navy leather interior. 5 speed, A/C, power windows. 7 & 8 factory fuchs w/new tires. No spoilers. All stock except for upgraded sound sytem, anti theft system and Momo Corse steering wheel (have original). The current owner doesn't have all the service history on the car.
![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for your thoughts, I am in love with this car, but don't want to over pay to much. I know there is a premium, but not sure what that is? I also understand how important a good PPI is. Thanks

That's a beautiful car. I don't know that I've ever seen one with such low mileage! Wow. Have you looked the car over with a fine toothed comb? I would think you, of all people, would have a good handle on what to look for on these cars.
For comparison purposes, Wickd89 bought his black '89 Cab just over a year ago and his is the cleanest classic Carrera I have ever seen, hands down. His is basically just as it was when it left the showroom. However, I believe that his car has more mileage on it by far. Maybe 50K to 60K miles. He paid somewhere in the low twenties if I recall correctly. I don't know, man. With such low mileage, and if the car is in "showroom" condition, it may be worth close to that. |

Scott,
I am trying to see it this weekend, it is in your neck of the woods in Mission Viejo.

Going to assume the condition is commensurate with the miles. In other words, it should show as pretty much a new car.
Of course, it's hard to put a price on a car with miles that low, because the price can be all over the place. A desperate seller can give it away for way too low, for example, for a close to "average" price (say, $15,000). That would be a steal. A place like Sloan, who has a large clientele looking for low mileage cars (although the mileage on that one is too high for a typical Sloan car), and a lot of patience and advertising, could get probably close to double that amount, i.e., mid to upper $20s. A somewhat unusual color combo, and the right person with the money will pay a good premium, if you can find that person. All that being said, the miles are of course far lower than most '84 Carreras, but not "Sloan low," like 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Not having the records will hurt the price premium, too. Because people that pay premiums for low mileage cars generally want things like the records. Also, if it's had too many owners and no clear ownership history, hurts it. It's also a first year Carrera, which is the lowest value of the 84-89 models. Because it is the oldest, 915, small vents, and other minor detail differences, which make it more like a 3.2 SC than, say a G50 Carrera. My guess, up to very low $20s is a fair price if the mileage is accurate, the condition reflects the mileage, the PPI comes out clean, Carfax clean, and you really like the color combo. That's a good premium over a "normal" 84, but many things about the car, as mentioned above, keep it out of the "huge price premium" category, IMO. The market may at this time be a bit softer, though, and that car may be hard to move at any number that starts with a "2." |

If EVERYTHING checks out - as it should with 32,000 miles - I am going to say 22K to 25K - with service records - without 20-23K.
They are not making them anymore and especially with less than 40k miles

With that low amount of miles, I'd say up to 25K....Beautiful car.

I've got to disagree; not only because I have an '84, but also because I have a friend w/ a later model Carrera and another friend with a SC. I think the Carrera w/ the small vents is retro looking w/ the newer 3.2 engine. (best of both worlds) IMO. Many Carreras had the 915 tranny & I'm sure if the milage is right, it shifts better than fine.........by the way, I paid real close to 20K for mine with all the service records, original paint, & close to 77k.........I'd say yours in similar condition would be close to 25k............one more thing, my money doesn't grow on trees. That 20k I spent was a lot.

If you truly love the car, just buy it (within reason, of course).
You don't want to spend the next several years regretting loosing this opportunity. |

I'd pay mid to high teens... no way would I go over 20. Only a right collector would pay that much but you could be one of them.

If the interior is also in great condition(meaning no excessive wear or tears or splits in the leather or dash) and the carpets are in similar great condition, along with the trunk, I estimate no more than $20,000. (remember the law of substitution-if an equally desirable similar car is available for the same price or less without undue delay, that is the cap of the value. And many good 911's can be had at $20,000. or less, IMHO, if they are really for sale. Also be aware that it is easy to disable a 911's speedo(I won't say how), so any 911 with that low a mileage in that age group needs to have further verification of the mileage through records or carfax. Good luck in your purchase! I have had a number of 911's and can say they are great, durable cars that give a level of driving satisfaction that is hard to duplicate; in fact, there really is no substitute.

Well, are you worried about tacking on miles? Are you worried about no "history"? (then again, with so few miles, it shouldn't have had much service other than fluid changes and potentailly dry rotted seals and gaskets). Have a PPI done. I think 20-23 is not unreasonable.

It would be nice to have a full service history, but the seller has the window sticker, and history for about 11 years. I will see the car on Saturday, and hope to make a deal. Michael

Despite all the estimates above - including my own, I do believe in paying a bit more to not let a truly good one get away.
Although, oddly, even though I've always been prepared to do so, I've never had to! Just remember the primary rule of buying - CASH TALKS! See if you can line up a PPI for Monday morning, tell the shop it isn't certain yet, but you will probably be bringing it by. That way you can tell the seller that if you can agree on a price on Saturday, pending a PPI, you can have the cash in his hand and the car out of his garage on Monday. Tell him that BEFORE you make your offer. It makes your offer more powerful when he knows there's no BS, and the car will be GONE quickly. That's what a seller wants, and that has value to a seller. I did that when I bought my current 911. I could tell the seller was tired and just wanted to sell the car. I also looked at it on a Saturday, and he could tell I was dead serious about having it gone on Monday (I had a PPI lined up for first thing Monday AM). I made a very aggressively low offer, fully ready to go up, and was surprised when he took it. That was a few years ago, and it's turned out to be a great car. |
