Porsche Classified's?

Hi, I live in Ontario and will looking to buy in the spring. I have watched this web site for months for the "right car" Ideally I would like a widebody (steel) 911. I don't know alot about the car, I just know I've always wanted this body. Since I live in Canada I have to contend with the exchange and all the duties and hassles of cross border shipping. All these things add alot to the end price. I will still buy in the States if the price is right.

Are there good web sites you guys would reccommend I look at? Currently this site and Ebay are the only ones I am using.

Thanks. Brian

I sent you a PM on this. Here is a link to a site I have found very useful.
http://www.rallystuff.com/pcar_sources.html

I have also found vast.com useful in collecting information from all sites, although sometimes the hyperlinks are not correct.

http://www.vast.com/cars/used-Porsche.911

I too am searching for my first Porsche. It is very difficult to find the right combination of year/miles/options/documentation/price - but keep looking you will succeed. Also, you might want to get connected to your local PCA group. You can actually join PCA as a Quest member and get most of the benefits for 6 months. I did. These guys have really taken care of me in my search. They are a great group of guys and gals who are passionate about their cars.

Good luck!

Welcome to the board!

check out the Ontario PCA site as well: www.pcaucr.org

The prices in Ontario are out of whack with reality. People see Porsche and think big dollar. It is best to buy a US car (even though I found mine in Calgary).

Make sure to get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection)!!!!

an other place to check is auto trader
yes you must wade thru lots of dealer ads
to find more junk and rust buckets
then most thought posable
and over priced dreamers too
but there is a small chance of a good deal
lost in that big list
at least their search is eazy to use

craigslist is another source
hard to search as each city is a seprate list
but some good cars are in with the clutter

Brian, welcome

I also live in Ontario and have purchased 3 Porsches all from California. 2 currently in my inventory. I would advise reading the Canada section here and check out the sticky about importing Cars.
Good luck, maybe a drive with us is in your future.

Thanks for all the help guys. Is there any way of filtering Craiglist to get all on one page as opposed to going through each city?

Click on the city on the main page for the particular local list. I know that Toronto's list is:

toronto.craigslist.org

Yes, but can you search all cities at one time for "Porsche"? It takes forever to check all the cities one by one.

Crazedlist

Warning: Searching every site takes a lot of resources. Unless you're looking for something really unique only search a few states at a time.

Crap.. I'll try it again later.. I would only get the actually city main screens to pop up.. no results whatsoever.. I could type a search in each window and it would work.. but no results from the main search page.. weird.

I'm a CL junky too.. provides hours and I mean literally hours of entertainment for me.. I keep hoping for the next great deal!

Smile Craig's Little Helper

Hi guys,
This is Nathan, the creator of craigshelper.

I noticed I was getting a fair bit of traffic from this site (thanks!), so I figured I'd come take a look. I'm glad you find the site useful, and thanks to 911 for posting it! I would be curious to know what you preferred about crazedlist, if anything (as well as any other suggestions you have). I still do spend some of my free time on the site, so if enough people would prefer a change, it's definitely a possibility. Worst case I could let you in on my reasoning..

Feel free to reply here or email me directly. Oh, and definitely let me know if my site manages to help you find a sweet Porsche.. because that'd just be cool.

Cheers,

C.H. Nathan

Hey Nathan
I learned about your site and the other from this post and have tried them both. The other works intermittently so I am using yours.
What I like better about the other is that once the search is complete, you can scroll down through the pages. On yours, you have to click through each.
Also, once you add cities to search, my computer retains those. If I want to search a smaller area, I have to remove them from my search. The other site has searches by individual states, regional, national etc...

I am not *****ing because until a few days ago, I was searching each city. Just trying to make your site more user friendly for me

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the suggestions. Hmm.. let me just go through your points here..
  • scrollable results

This is indeed something I've heard before.. of course, on the other hand I've also had people prefer it as-is. I basically have two reasons for laying it out this way. Well, actually 3, but only two that benefit you.. One is that this way, the results window can essentially fill your screen. With the multiple frames on one page, if you want them bigger, you have to resize each frame individually. More importantly though, I actually find this navigation easier. If you want to jump to a specific city, it's trivial using the index on the left. And I've found that using the 'next city' button to scan through cities is comparably fast to scrolling down the list.

That said, a number of people certainly do prefer the scrolling method, so it's definitely something I'm considering adding (keeping both options available) in the future.
(The third reason is that this way all the cities don't have to be loaded at once. That's to reduce load on craigslist's servers, but come to think of it, it probably also speeds up the page loading and prevents browser crashes..)
  • saving of cities

I'm actually surprised to hear this. Most people seem to find the saving of cities convenient, since you're often going to be searching the same places. You can easily remove all your search parameters (as crazedlist does automatically every time) by clicking the 'clear all' button. You can also save multiple sets of parameters simply by bookmarking the results pages.
  • easy state/regional/national search

AGREED! I think this is my new first priority. You can already search entire states, but I definitely think the addition of 'regions' ie midwest, north east, etc, would be very useful.
Thanks again, and please let me know if you have any other thoughts (that goes for everybody).

Cheers,

C.H. Nathan
