What's the value on a 78 SC
How much are SCs selling for these days?
When my neighbor bought his 1978 SC coupe around the early 90s, he paid $11,800 or $10,800 for it (I can't remember which) and it had 128,000 miles on it. He since has had it repainted black (original color was green) it was a professional-done job, with all the glass removed and interior removed. The car has got a factory original turbo whale tail on it, front chin spoiler, Recaro seats (black velour-looking, not leather) Hella H4s, the engine and transmission has had a top-end rebuild when he owned it. He was the 3rd owner, which makes me the 4th. I'm sure it has the carrera chain tensioners and air box pop-off valve upgrades, as he was very meticulous about it. It's got a Kenwood (sirius ready) CD receiver in it, and Boston acoustic speakers. It also has a power amp mounted in the front trunk. (just a bit of side info). It's got 146,000 miles on it now. I still don't know what my dad paid for it (but am planning on finding out) but I've seen SCs for sale on this board for under $10k, which seem a steal to me. I had them pegged at between 10,000-15,500, with a nice example being around $18,000. So what are the current value/prices for 1978-83 SCs? Cheers, Katie

I paid 10k cash for my silver over black '79SC coupe last summer. 100k miles, records including recent rebuilt tranny, interior almost a 9 of 10, and needs paint. Motor is tight and non-leaking. Carrera tail, chin spoiler, updated stereo, etc... Runs great.
When looking I saw a few other SC's priced around 10 to 15 thousand, mostly dogs. Mine is far from perfect but the mechanicals are solid. I am slowly updating to the early RS look. Eric

I sold a track prepped SC that needed some refreshening (trans) and had some rust on the B pillar for 11K a few months ago. Condition is everything with these cars given their age (23-28 years old!)
I think your values are pretty accurate. Seems cars under $10K need a lot of help.. cars over $16-17 better be excellent examples. Once you get to $18K, they compete with 3.2l Carerras and higher mileage 964s and even cross shopping with '00 and newer Boxsters.
