Yeah....Ron has since emailed me telling me that I need to "move faster" next time and that he is "sorry" for what happened....he also believes that he is in no way responsible for anything that happened....I told him to save his BS for someone else.

Just a quick question /comment - who was the broker representing in this transaction? If I were hiring a broker I would expect him/her to get me the best price - not provide a deal to a buyer. Since you had not sent the money to purchase the car you had no standing in the transaction between the seller and the broker. Your decision to commit funds to other aspects of the transaction before owning the right to purchase the car is just unfortunate on your part. Many of us have been in the same position. There have been many times that I have driven many hours to look at a vehicle to find out it sold to someone who showed up first.
A second note is that ebay and other worldwide trading websites have changed the marketplace, particularly for cars or parts with limited audiences. As more and more people realize that these tools can ensure that your item is exposed to most if not all potential buyers - future prices will reflect true FMV and "good" deals will be harder and harder to find. Just remember your good deal was the seller's loss. With the potential for sellers to get fair market value, less will be lost to middlemen or due to poor marketing of the item for sale. This will benefit us when we sell as well. |
Your points are well taken. The issue I have is that we (broker and I) had struck a "deal" in that we had agreed upon a price and conditions for purchase after he had informed me that the car's owner had the title in their hands, that they only trusted him to "dispose of " the car (as opposed to other brokers) and he knew full well of my costs.
To me, the guy's product is making deals for money. We had agreed on terms. The guy's product "broke" and I'm out money. In my mind, the least I have is a right to tell the story and, I feel, the guy owes me my expenses incurred on behalf of his poor information. Others may differ. |
