1987 Porsche 911 Value?
what do you guys think? This is a good looking local car. Second owner is selling.
"1987 PORSCHE 911, 44,300 miles, Sliver Carrera Coupe w/Rear Spoiler Grey lthr & dk bl int. Very Good Condition! P Sunroof P Window CC AC Blaupunkt Always Garaged" What are peoples thoughts on value in general? When a car hits 100k does it drop in value? Where are the mileage price breaks? It seems like >15k, <50k, and <100k. And it seems that once you hit 100K you might as well have 200K in terms of pricing? Thanks, Dean |

Look up the value in the Manheim Gold book or the NADA guide. They are on the internet. Value should be around $20K or so for a low mileage one in good condition. The guides don't subtract for mileage for vintage cars, but generally cars below 100K miles or so sell for higher, especially below 50K miles. Condition is probably more important. I believe values are flat for 78-83SCs, slightly higher for 84-87s, and then increase more beginning in '88 with the G50 gearbox.
Check ebay sold cars to get another value estimate--on the low side.

I believe 87s had the G50 gearbox. This car's value is in the 20s. This could be a very good car.

87' was the first year for the G50. If the car was driven regularly (ie. not stored for long periods of time), well maintained and gets good marks after a PPI, I'd say it is worth $22.5 on the West Coast and 20K +- 1K in St. Lou. I keep tabs on the 78-89 market regularly and it does seem to depend where the car is.
Start subtracting for issues, accident damage, repaint, mods etc. There is a good chance that this car may develop valve guide issues as its mileage is low. Many higher mileage 3.2's have had this issue repaired already or are suffering from high oil consumption. You may also get lucky and not have to deal with it for a long time. Lower mileage Porsches aren't all they are cracked up to be. The 87-89 G50 cars are the sweet spot for air cooled cars and they have been appreciating in price. Don't discount these cars strictly on mileage. A well maintained, higher mileage, regularly driven 911 is preferable to a low mile garage queen that sits for long periods of time. YMMV Good luck. Sounds like a nice car. BTW - I have an 87' and I'm never selling.
