FS but not driven for 3 years

I've been pointed at a very low mileage, original condition 930 that has not been driven in 3 years. Reportedly, it was professionally serviced (with long term storage in mind) just prior to being parked indoors.

It is sitting on its tires so clearly they are of concern but I am also wondering about bearings, seals, gaskets, rings, cam surfaces, potential critter damage.... .

Any advice for precautions prior to turning it over or...?

Depends on a lot of things. What did they do to make it ready for "long term" storage? I would hope if it was professionally done, all the basics would be covered. Replace brake fluid and oil; swap all your filters, gas it up and give it a try. In all likelihood, it's OK but use it to your advantage when you are discussing price (...um, I like the car but the engine may need rebuilt and that's like...$20k...)
You can Google restarting a car from storage and likely find 100 things I didn't mention. Post pics if you get it.

Well, I'm going to look at this car this weekend. By independent report, the car is very very nice....looks, runs, drives, shifts and stops as it should for being an '89 930 w/ 9,xxx miles. The deal is $53,500 take it or leave it. Owner will not consent to full PPI (compression, leakdown...) as they are elderly and rather flaky.

Any thoughts?

$53,500? Does it come with two gold bars in the trunk? For $20K less than that you can find an immaculate low mileage 930 of any year you desire.

That is not all that outrageous for a 9,000 mile car. The issue is if you plan on driving it. It will depreciate faster than a 07 caddy

All 6 911's that my brother and I have bought over the years were bought without a PPI. So, if you know what you are doing and what you are looking for on 911's, you can get by without a PPI. I don't recommend this for people that have not been around these cars much.

However, money fixes all problems with these cars.

$53,500 is a fair price if the car is immaculate cosmetically, has full documentation from day 1, has original paint and interior materials, has a verifiable 9,000 miles and runs and drives reasonably well. These ultra low mileage cars are in a league all of their own and command premium prices since they are collectible at that mileage.

The '89 Turbo's are special too in that they are the only impact bumper 930's with the G-50 5 speed transmission. They are the last of the old school look Turbo's with an updated transmission. Very desireable.

If you want a driver, look elsewhere. As Kurt and Luke say above, it'll depreciate heavily once you start driving it. It's worth the most with miles under 10k and then will start tanking once you hit 20k on the odometer.

The owner of green '89 930 in Sedona, AZ has just this evening decided her price is now $65,000.

After dealing with Ron Susser (broker) for the past month and agreeing upon the price cited above but subject to my personal inspection of the car, I sank $3600 into 3 days of coverage for my position at work and another $700 into plane tickets to depart tomorrow only to be told of this price increase tonite.

I'm done.

The tickets are the smallest of my costs in this ordeal.

What got me was the broker saying that there was nothing he could do and that he was only "caught in the middle." and offereing me the owner's phone number to "take it out on them." Odd that the one person who makes a living by inserting himself into transactions wants to own none of the responsiblity when it all turns to ****e.

In most worlds, liberties and responsibilities are proportional....but I'm not in the middleman business so what would I know? At my trade, sloppy work results in people getting hurt and my taking it between the eyes...only the lawyers get rich....more middlemen.

I'm not saavy to the low mile market, but if you were planning on driving this car, I would guessimate it could lose $500 for every 1,000 miles driven.

IMHO, This car is more akin to a museum piece than a car to really enjoy on the road. I'm positive my car budget is much lower than most here. Disposable income isn't in my vocabulary.

I get a kick out of these people that want BIG money for their cars, but won't wash and wax the car, spend $3.99 on tire dressing or (my favorite) won't spend $14 on new hood and rear deck lid shocks.

The broker e-mailed today...the eBay auction ended early as (according to the broker) the car was sold to an Austrian for $65,000...no way to know if that's true or not but if so, $53,500 suddenly looks like a "good deal." Live and learn.....

I notice the broker, Ron Susser, has the words, "Trust, Integrity, Results" under his website name in his logo. Looks like he only has the "Results" part of the equation.

Sorry to hear of your bad (expensive) ordeal with this Turbo. It sure takes the fun out of the hobby when this stuff happens.
