72 coupe ?

What do you make of this ad? It's the second posting for identical car with different mileage listed, incorrect spelling, and absolutely NO information?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/very-clean-911-porch-t-orin-mi-6700-one-owner_W0QQitemZ180127621291QQihZ008QQcategoryZ1015 6QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone have a serious idea what's going on, besides a possible scam?

personally, I think it's a scam. Whenever I see an ad posting email addresses all over the place it's suspect. You probably email and get a msg back telling you that he needs to cash a cashier's check but you can keep part of it and get the car for $2000, etc etc

he told me pictures are coming and that the bid was $8,000.
it is allegedly in yonkers, new york. with pics i may be willing to go and have a looksee.
i see that it has ten bidders on one auction ,and one bidder on the second auction. that seems odd. the only difference i see in the ads is the mileage numbers and the end date for the auctions..
wait and see.
if it was a scam, they should pick a better color than brown.[no offense], i actually like brown myself.

He has been promising me pics for days, and I am an hour from Yonkers and offered to look at it at his convenience. No response.

If you want you can forward the email to me. My email is element1733@earthlink.net and I can check the files. I am on a Mac that is pretty much virus-proof. Or you can just open it. Just don't click on anything that has a .exe at the end of it. Or you can just trash it and write the whole thing off. But curiosity is hard to hold back on this one!

I noticed the ad pulled also--seems to be either a scam or someone who is extremely clueless as to selling through on the net. Either way, the attempt sends red flags flying all around. If the files are legit, I would bet they are of a car that the seller doesn't even own. Could be wrong, but week old fish smells better than this. If you take the risk, let us know the outcome of the files.

Nobody cares about Macs so there are almost no viruses that can affect them. That in mind, I opened 'em up and ... they were pics. Pics of who's car we don't know, but pics nonetheless of a brown 911 with MFI. The claims of excellent condition don't really fly, there are dark brown stains all over the headliner along the door frame. And it's supposed to be on the road but it has a flat tire.
Here is one of the pics in case anybody knows who owns it.

Car is a scam. Ebay took both listings off and seller is "not a registered user". I know who owns this car.

matt13421342,
Thanks for the updated info. It's interesting that 72porscheman actually knows the true owner. We've all seen these fake ads before, but I've never seen one done so poorly--then again, the ad did get 8 bids before it was pulled.

It's times like this that I am so thankful that we have a community to turn to when these things come up. In two days time this car went from viable auction purchase to verified complete scam.

THANKS PELICAN!
