Porsche 1986 Carrera brake upgrade
need some advice. This stock '86 coupe is a driver, autocross and track. The rotors and brakes are pretty much gone and thinking of upgrading to better/bigger brakes. Can run 7 and 6's or 7 and 8 standard 16 Fuchs. Any suggestions? Thanks

why? tell us your current set up - pads, fluid, brake lines, brake ducting (fresh air is key)...
You won't fit too much under 15's or 16's - you can fit 930 calipers, 944t/964 calipers. Anything larger and you would need 17" rims.

Hi racer, the current set up is stock. Will upgrade the fluid and brake lines of course, and have considered some scoops underneath. I have a set of 7&8x16 will use for the track but would like to keep the 6&7x16's for the street. Will improve the suspension some but will use the car for part trime driver, autocross and some hard DE's. It's a fun car, engine is stock 3.2. Since I have to replace the rotors anyways just wondering how much difference the upgrade would make and "how to" upgrade brakes. Thanks.

lots of info on this in the Technical BBS. Cost to upgrade properly to 930 brakes and rotors is about 3 g's. For occasional DE's rebuild the Carrera calipers, put on new rotors, add cooling ducts with the backing plate and block off plates for the rotor and you are good to go for about 500 bucks not counting pads. Get good pads and fluid. Match the pads for the rears. Use Pagid Orange or Performance Friction race pads.
