Need Pricing help 77 911 Carrera 3.0

Hi, I am trying to find a fair price for my car. The car is a 77 Carrera 3.0. The reason I am selling is I just don't have the time or money to make this car what I want it to be.

The main problems I see with the car is the rot issue. I will post additional pictures. They include the floor in one corner, the left rear wheelwell, the right front (found this morning) and possible area are the seems where the rockers meet the front fenders. At the seams, there appear to be very faint rust. Rust a owner might notice.

I have a mig welder (maybe tops 5 hours on) which can go with the car.

The engine needs someone who can fine tune it. It runs really nice but I can not imagine this is how it ran coming out of the factory. When warm it runs really nice, cold not as nice but recent addition of new fuel accumulator has certainly helped. There are a lot of new parts on the car but the most recent are bilstein sports in the back, turbo tie rods, and I have a brand new (in box) set of bilstein sports for front. The car just passed inspection here in MA but the I had to rig the horn to pass. I have a Dino steering wheel on but am missing the unit to make the horn work.

I stripped out the interior and painted most of it black. Didn't finish the floor because of the rot whole I found. I was trying to build a light weight car for autocross. I have all the interior. I also took out the window regulators and went with straps. Not stuff that helps the price but wasn't planning on selling at the time. I also took out the a/c (which didn't work) and all the heater stuff. Car has SSI's and a muffler that gives it a really nice sound. It's loud but not over the top obnoxious.

The good thing about the car is that it does move fairly well. Before I remove all the interior and heating stuff, I drove my neighbors SC with a 83 Euro motor. It felt, as he also said; sluggish next to the C3. It felt heavy. I do not know if it just a stock C3 thing or if a previous owner did something to it. I did speak to the owner who sold the car to the guy I bought it from and he claims noticably faster than his 86 911. I guess he sold to try a 928 (more traveling for work), didn't like 928 and bought the 86. He mentioned the guy he bought it from had the motor rebuilt. I called that guy who confirmed he spent about 6K back around 1993. I estimate the engine has about 30k since rebuild.

I had all new synchros, dog teeth and sliders put in the car maybe 3K miles ago. It shifts nice when cold. When warm, it is a bit tougher to get into first (no grinding) and reverse (will grind sometimes).

The paint is about 3yrs old. I stripped to bear metal and repainted. It's not show quality but it does get a bunch of compliments.

The good thing about the rot problems are that they are all in areas where the exterior will not need to be repainted. I've lost eh drive to go any further with it. At this stage in life, my money could certainly be spent better elsewhere. With a lift and the ability to weld, I think the car wouldn't be too bad to fix.

I have everything that I pulled off less the rockers covers.

Any suggestions?

I'll post my problem area pictures.

David

Sorry this is the right front fender (notice oil lines). Next are the seams. I'll post one side. They are Identical.

That should do it. Any suggestions on price.

Oh, here is one back shot. I put straps on for the duck. Again weight. Never got around to removing lid mechanism.

Oh, I am not looking to push off on someone who doesn't have a clue about work involved. I have been on that side of the equation and it stinks. Either does the work themselves or doesn't mind spending to have it done. I think someone with free time (weekends) and the tools could fix easily over a winter.

Thanks,

David

Pretty, great color could be a fun car.

Unfortunately, it is IMO worth best case in the low teens with all the needed repairs. It represents in my mind the worst case rust scenario for a mid 70s car. 6 to 10k in professional repairs. A sepia brown 75 in much worst rust condition sold on this board for roughly $5000 to $5500 within the last three months.

Very recently Four USA carreras have sold or were listed on EBay. A Brown 74 sold for $24k it was listed three times. A yellow 74 had a $63k restoration and sold for $40k. A red 75 did not sell and bidding topped at $16k. Asking was $26k. A white 74 targa had a buy it now price of 43k. It has been re-listed with a 24k starting bid.

The big plus with your car is the 3.0 as this motor straighten out many of the earlier USA car issues. This might swing the value a few thousand.

I am a fan of these cars!
