value of an earthy 1992 964
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/car/370902253.html
I talked to this guy above. I haven't seen it - would have to drive 1.5 hours: -has 180k on the clock -engine rebuilt by PO but no paperwork, it was 60k ago -current owner is the 2nd owner (but bought it from a flipper and no records) -has had it for 2 years, he bought it for 15k and has put 2k into it. - eg fuel line, oil line - the main issue is that the current owner had an accident was autocrossing and was hit (or hit something) in the rear left quarter panel. The rear quarter panel was replaced, rear bumper, and muffler also. Paint was matched pretty well apparently. insurance took care of it. -I need to run a carfax to see what it says about the acciddent. -the 14k is his absolute bottom line he started at 16k. If he cant get 14k it goes back into his garage. for me, im looking for a reasonable driver. This one seems a little earthy and possibly hard to sell. maybe go and see it, and if so ..is it worth 14k? |
I'd pass. If you are getting in to a low priced 964 thinking that you got a great deal and that's it, you're likely to get a rude awakening. They are more expensive to maintain than a 993. For the money, Id look for a strong SC or a 84-86 3.2 carrera. Just a thought.

Rob King at S Car Go in San Rafael has a strong running 82 SC targa that has 46k miles on it. He's selling for 12k which is rediculously low. Paint looks tired but it runs very srong. I drove it.

back into the garage it goes.

I have a 92 964 for sale in better shape than that car, for $21,900. ( http://web.mac.com/guessendo )
For the additional $5900 my car would be a much better deal without the surprises that car might have... Of the 5 964's I've had... they run about $200 a year in maintenance with me doing the work... as much as my 65 911! ;) |
A friend of mine just bought a similar car (except 100K fewer miles) for $10K. The 'surprises' are yet to be found, but I saw the car yesterday, and the gaps are perfect all around.
IOW, the car is pricey at $14K. |
