$250,000 Porsche(s) mystery?
I've got a question for those who have been watching the cars "for sale" over the past few years.
I looked at the e-bay ad below: Then, I followed the written link to look at the lot of cars advertised. What I saw among the 19 Porsches being sold is, what appeared to be, some of the cars that had been offered by a very eccentric collector from Wyoming who put his cars up for sale at enticing prices, but never sold anything and rarely returned calls. Old timers on this site know who I mean and will understand this post. Am I right about this? Could someone who also remembers the pictures of his "barn of cars" look at the link and tell me if some of those dusty long hoods look familiar? If they are the same cars, then it looks like someone finally pried them away--or is being duped in a consignment deal--as the link takes you to an outfit in Florida. Here's the link to the cars:http://www.dreamsonwheels.com/index.php?page=porsche-356-the-best Someone, anyone, give me your opinion ![]()

I'm not sure if the same group of cars from Wyoming. If you look at the sellers other items there is a Porsche and British car shop. It could be somebody retiring and/or just getting out of the business. The Ebay item number for the shop is: Item number: 140154018588

I guess I wasn't too clear. I didn't mean the whole batch of Porsches, but there were a couple--the dusty ones like the brown targa, black coupe, light blue "racer"--that looked familiar and the photos reminded me of the ones in Wyoming with the brick wall and wooden floor. I just got the feeling that I had seen those pictures before. The outfit offering them for sale is not the concern, I just wonder if the Wyoming (my mistake about Montana) cars had been "liberated."

This is definitely the same group of cars from that nut in Wyoming! Looks like somebody finally gave him a big enough chunk of cash to get his entire collection. I know a guy who made a special trip out to WY and he still wouldn't actually sell anything!
Who pulls it off? None other than hbrand of Florida...famous purveyor of fine VIN cut-outs and "restored" 911s: http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17094 The pics on his site are the same old dusty pics the Wyoming nut would always post but never follow through with any sales. Does hbrand have these cars in Florida, or is he just acting as an agent for the guy in Wyoming? My guess is the latter. Will be interesting to see how this turns out. I think the $250K is dream pricing... Last edited by jkarolyi; 09-14-2007 at 09:36 AM.. |

Jay,
Thanks for the confirmation on the Wyoming cars--the EarlyS thread is a very interesting read! I don't have any knowledge of the seller mentioned in the thread, but apparently his reputation is a bit sketchy to say the least. I, too, will be very interested to see if the cars actually arrive from Wyoming, and to what degree, if any, the seller, dreamsonwheels.com, is involved in a true sale or a true deception.

I don't think the cars will ever be sent down here (NSB, Florida). The freight would be in excess of $30K. The best market for most of this stuff is California or Europe isn't it?
I have not been told by Harold, but from what I can summarize from past and current knowledge, all these cars will be sold to someone overseas. Either as a package (doubtful) or one at a time. Last edited by John Schaefer; 09-15-2007 at 04:10 AM.. Reason: Wrong wording |
