How can I find a solid 356?

I have been looking for a while - I know that quite some 356 are out there, but I always end up with dealers that don't know anything about the car and tell you about the increadible increase in value to be expected.

I want a solid car from someone who knows the car well and has some enthusiasm. I am in LA, but would travel everywhere in the US and drive it back.

Any Ideas?

Thx

How much do you want to spend?

356 registry. These guys know EVERYTHING about the 356. From the type of bolt to hold the tail-light lens on with to many broader subjects.

They are likely also very knowledgable about who / where the trust worthy dealers/consigners/restorers are.

What 356 are you looking for? Coupe? Cab? Speedster? A, B, C? Daily driver? Show car? 100pt concours?

Thx guys,,

I am looking for a Coupe. I solid driver. Would like to spend in the lower $20s.
Most of the cars from the links I have seen already. The one that is still up for sale and I like most is the 1959 356.

Butwhen you go to the dealers Web Site to look at the details, it seems to have major rust issues underneath.
Look:

To me this looks bad!?

Thx again for the imput!

I looked for 2 years for exactly the car you want and never found one that wasn't either a big compromise or staring at some significant investment

disappointment

Yeah Sean, that's a bit how I feel - got a couple of leads though.
Did you ever buy one then?

Thx for the feedback.

Even with the potential rust problems, that looks like a good buy.

Hello Atlantic, I am willing to review photos and write up of any 356 and give you an objective opinion for $25.00 for each car. I frankly do not think you are going to get a quality car for $20,000 but sometimes we get lucky and I am willing to help you.
Please refer to my web page: www.356consulting.com for my 356 experience, (over 40 years) and the other services I offer. It is best to use the email shown below as I don't read the Pelican topics everyday. Thanks,
