I was there ...

Hi Benneke,

I attended the Ventura show today. The corral area lookied as if a few cars had departed already. Fron those that remained I can tell you 2 truths ...

first, any literature you find attached to the car that says it is a collectable or will soon be a collectable isn't (they all say "collector" which is, of course, a person or other entity not the car.

Secondly, the longer the write up the nastier is the car.

Most all the cars below 1995's were there trolling for the gullible and inexperienced. A couple of real sneaky ones with engine bays full of Metric Mechanic horror stories. The usual suspects from the dealer ranks were present with the requisite batch of $4K-10K California mark up cars.

Not a happy hunting ground for those of us seriously in "in the market".

I think that show is dying a slow death. Participation seems to be down every year, especially this one.

The funny thing is that there were some good deals to be had at the swap meet, usually it's the same guys with the same things asking too much, and every year they still have whatever it is they were trying to sell last year. The show is over and those guys still have their things, you'll see them next year if they show up, but this time there were a few guys wanting to sell stuff. Not cars except for one or two, though.

The literature meet, which is my favorite, was a total bust. No organization, just a few people selling, half the usual suspects. I polled the rest, or at least those that I know, they said it wasn''t worth the time/expense.

73 RS touring unsold

The supposedly 'real' 73 RS left on a trailer Sunday unsold - no takers at $195,000. The blue used on the graphics and fuchs looked off and the car was from a dealer in Louisiana?! Might have been a U-boat during Katrina.

A used car dealer arrived with two cars, one of the cars driven by one of their mechanics that could not speak english.

Best buy was only there Sunday and it was a 930 with a G50/50 trans 42k miles and for sale for $37k. Stock and in decent shape.

I missed the Turbo, was it 1989 or a G50 conversion? I had to leave early and just made a quick pass. The 944 on the trailer, I'd love to know what that person was thinking.

Maybe it was just me, but I thought about trying to get inside that RS through the gap between the door and fender at the top, either side. There was more wrong with that car than right, at least on quick inspection, maybe that was why it was priced so "low". (I have to admit to being one of those who thinks the pricing on RS's is silly). I wonder what his $185K one looked like?
