Overpriced?

Hey guys, thanks for the help before with the tips on that sportomatic.

I've got another car to ask you guys about, I saw it on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911S-clone-califorina-car-rare-wheels-nice_W0QQitemZ250165563989QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10156 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Read the description carefully, it's a 912 converted to a 911, is that a fair price?

Jon

No. If the car passes a PPI and is as described, it is priced fairly.

The motor and trans as described are worth $5K, webers worth $3k, a clean rust free 912 body another $4K, interior $1k, suspension $1k, and misc parts $1k. This gives you roughly $15k if you were to build with some minor assistance.

Now with that being said it is what it is..... a hot rodded 912....a damn pretty one at that.

Are your numbers a total of what the parts would cost, or what they are worth installed in to a car?

Wow this explains a lot. When I wrote him an email asking for his phone number this was the response I got:

Dear xxxxxxx,

I'm on the coast right now, no cell phones here, but I can call you from the hotel pay phone, so give me your #### rich

Already sounded like bull*****, regardless, the next day I wrote him an email with my number. I kid you not, (I just checked the timestamps across my email and my phone) only six minutes later my phone was ringing. It was rich, and he was saying that the car was up near sears point. This didn't make sense because the auction says the car's in San Francisco. By the end of the phone call, and the garbage he was saying about how somebody was flying in to see the car and blah blah blah, he said he was thinking of moving the car to his San Francisco storage facility in Hunter's Point, and he'd call me back once he had done that.

Well, this afternoon, before I had checked your response on this message board, I wrote him another email asking him to give me a call, thinking he'd respond with the same promptness, and guess what, nothing. Most likely, he saw you response to my inquiry, and didn't want to waste his time calling me back.

This message board is fantastic BTW! Thank you all so much, if you were here, I'd buy you beers.

Update:

When I spoke with Rich yesterday, he told me the Porsche was formerly owned by the "Multimillionaire owner of the Flying Lizard Racing Team". The story he told me was that the owner was out riding his bike one day, with two friends, both of which were doctors of course, and he just fell over and died. The doctors couldn't revive him, and long story short, Rich ended up with the car.

Well, interestingly enough, I just got off the phone with someone from "Flying Lizard Racing" and they are happy to report that the owner of the team is alive and well, and they were shocked to hear Rich's story.
