tires and wheels
I'm restoring a 1969 911 E. The car should have 14" Fuch's which I have now purchased. Question ...what size tires can these 5 1/2 inch wide 14" Fuch's take? Wide semi-low profile is good?

I can't seem to find the original tire size. I'll check the factory manuals I have to see if they specify. But be sure you don't get too much into the low profile sizes. These wheels were part of the "comfort" package and came with somewhat squishy tires (as compared to the 15" wheels). The good news is that these days you can get a 14" tire with the proper aspect ratio that will actually perform pretty well, too. I've seen early cars with low profile tires and they look very anorexic.... just my opinion.

The "comfort option" depended on a high, compliant sidewall along with the "hydro-pneumatic" struts, which were often replaced rather quickly with standard struts on those cars.... TT

You can squeeze on a 205/70 -14 - my dad put those on his 914-6 with 5.5x14.
A 165/80 or 185/70 were the more popular "original" sizes. Not sure what you would find with a "modern" tire - maybe a 195/60-14? Then again, restoring an "E", maybe you are thinking "vintage" tire anyway.. say a Michelin X or XWX. I think my dad is currently running either a 195/60-14 or 195/65-14
