I find this type of car really hard to price because it doesn't fit in any guide book, and the potential owner pool is very limited. I have seen similar cars with asking prices from $20-30K. The ones closer to $30K are "still for sale".. Closer to 20 or high teens sold quicker.

You will never make your money back. The car doesn't easily fit into say, PCA Club race (it would not be competitive in a GT class and the motor makes it unable to run in "stock" class. Thus, it falls in the middle as a fun DE/Weekend car.

If an '80 SC with the same set up in all but the engine is a $15K ish car, then maybe someone would pay a small premium for the 3.6.. so maybe $19? Are the jackstands included? ;)

johnsjmc 10-10-2007 09:14 PM

Jack stands are available as an option.Only pic I could find easily. If I sell I was thinking low $20s would be reasonable. There is certainly more done to the car than listed or I can even remember.

+1

This is not a 'big market car.' This is a car for one or two people who want 964 performance in an SC form factor for their own reasons. You can get 964 money for this car from the right buyer.

As you depart from stock, every decision you make can thrill or repulse a prospective buyer. The Turbo tail would not work for me, but would be just right for another. The suspension and brake mods sound impressive. Anyone hoping to build such a car would do well to consider yours. People usually overlook the time and expense of the 'sorting' process.

Is it me or are the 3.6 conversions not the hot ***** any more these days? One thing this car has against it is the market in CA. Not easy to get smog legal in CA. I would be surprised if it fetches over 20k US. It's a nice car though - before you sell, get pictures off the jackstands. ;)

My deal is not done yet, but, I listed my 3.6 swapped SC for 22K and it looks like I have it sold 12 hours after posting the listing.

Not only that but, I received an E-mail and an PM here inquiring on the car the E-mailer wanted it as bad as the guy that I am working the deal with now.

I was shocked because after reading this thread I expected it to sit for sale for months with no lookers. I was kind of wanted a little more time with her before she went and thats not going to be the case now.

johnsjmc 10-25-2007 02:17 PM

Best I recall jackstand pic was taken during an oil change. I also like the smaller Carrera tail on the SCs and Carreras but the teatray came with the car.I have since aquired a fiberglass copy of the smaller tail with glass decklid and rubber lip but need to paint it to match .Spare time right now is at a premium as I just hauled my sailboat(Schock 34PC) for the winter and am busy winterizing it.Both the 911 and boat will be in line for some more upgrades over the winter. No doubt my life would be simpler if I could leave any vehicle stock.

Wow...I was getting ready to post a very similar question. I think this thread helps sum up what I've been thinking.

Jims5543 10-26-2007 02:02 PM

Well, I have egg on my face, I hesitated to post I sold mine in fear I might jinx myself, my buyer backed out.

But, I have 2 others fighting for dibs, and the PO of my car now is interested and wondered why I did not contact him when I wanted to sell.

All I can say is, try to build one of these for less than 22K. The PO of my car gave it away as far as I was concerned. He had more than 2X what I paid for it in receipts.

Now, as I sat all depressed for the last 2 days fighting to let go of my 3.6 I am contemplating not selling it and just fighting through my financial setbacks.

I am in Florida now and have finally decided to sell this car It has only been driven a few hundred miles per year since this thread post. how do I link this post to another post in the" for sale section"??

dienstuhr 04-01-2010 11:26 AM

Just post a fresh ad in "for sale". The fact that you tried to sell it 3 years ago wouldn't help make a sale now.

Cheers and good luck - looks like a nice car.

I never tried to sell it before now. I considered selling it after hurting my left knee but never advertized it anywhere .The cost of replacement is much higher than buying one already done. I would like to keep it but find I just don,t drive it anymore. I have probably put only a few hundred miles per year on since my knee injury. My wife having just bought a 996 has helped make up my mind finally.

Ah, sorry, my fault. I confused you with the other guy in the thread whose buyer backed out. Anyway the advice still stands, post a fresh ad with some pics of your car not on jackstands, it looks like a great ride.

Good luck!

Is the Carrera decal removable?

Hi,

Is the Carrera decal on the side removable?

Robert

johnsjmc 04-02-2010 10:42 AM

Yes, easily removed with your fingernail and maybe the help of a hairdryer. It is only vinyl tape. I also have a Carrera style rear tail with rubber lip instead of the "teatray " but it would need to be painted to match.

can it be smogged in CA?

Hi,

Where is it registered and can it be smogged in CA?

johnsjmc 04-02-2010 04:18 PM

I imported the car from Texas to Canada about 10 yrs ago. it is registered in Ontario. It can be returned to the US as it is an American spec car. I would expect it to be difficult to smog in Cali. Canada doesn,t test for smog compliance on a 1980

I had my 3.6 conversion for sale over the winter. I got an couple of offers just south of $24k CDN, and turned them down...

I've put about 500km so far this season on mine and I loved every second of it, so much so that I took it off the market!

The pool is shallow here in Canada, especially since and US buyer has to deal with par currency :(

Put it on kijiji and PCA UCR for high teens, OR part it out. That'll get it moving. It's a tough decision for someone with cash who is comparing your 911 with a 2001 from the US for mid 20's..
