'60 356 Cab VS '73 911T Coupe

I need some help! I have a numbers matching 1960 356B T5 Cab project with many new parts and a complete new leather interior from Autobahn Interiors. Still needs floors welded in and bodywork/paint and engine freshening. I have a friend with a very nice '73 non-sunroof 911T coupe with original MFI and no rust. It's been repainted a non original color many years ago but runs great and is a nice driver. He would like to trade the '73 911 and some cash (about 15K), for my 356 Cab project.
What do you guys think? I have a restored 1972 911T Targa that I love and I would be very excited about restoring the '73 911 coupe. But I think that the 356 would be a much better investment in the long term. Or, am I wrong? Maybe the '73 911 value will catch up.

So, bottom line - would I be stupid to make the trade? Or could the '73 911T Coupe be just as valuable? Not trying to flip any of them - just want to be smart about things for a change.

Thanks for any input.

Aero.. let me get this straight.. and make some assumptions..

A "driver" T is a $12-15K car presently. Then he wants to throw another $15K on top making it seem like your Cab project is worth $30K as a starting point?

A "project" 356Cab? (not sure what that is worth to begin with) but it sounds like it would cost another $30K to make your cab project "whole".

How much "restoring" does the "T" need? Do you want to restore the "T"? Do you want a "T" coupe? If you have the Cab project because you really wanted to do the work, pay the bills and have a Cab when you are done, then trading for the "T" doesn't make sense. It won't make you happy.

If either of the cars are a "passion" to you, then the final market value won't matter either. It should be work of love, not of investment potential to send the kids to college

i think that over the coming years the 356 will be much more valuable than the '73 t. besides, you have a '72 targa already.
however, if you do get the coupe, i will be glad to take your targa off your hands.

A Few

A few years ago I made a mistake. I had two cars, an '86 Carrera coupe and a '71 "S" coupe #'s match throughout. Due to the fact the '71 S was so uncommon I sold the '86 coupe. That was not my smartest move. While the '71 now brings big money "a least in my world", the '86 was a much better car in general. Moral of my senseless ramblings? go with the gut, not the dollar.
I am so weird that I was in the garage sitting in the '86, yes, just sitting.

I never did that in the '71. I now refer to this sydrome as the sit test. If I just want to sit in the car then thats the one for me. By the way, I have only found two or three cars in my life I just wanted to sit in. Oddly they were all Porsches.
This is why I just sold my '70 Corvette and am buying another '86 Porsche coupe..............all because of the sit test.

Cal44 - I have to say that the 71 matching coupe is so much better than an 86! The early engines have a sounds and smell to them that cannot be had in the later cars. I think you would be complaining way more today if you had sold your S with what has occured in the long hood market.

And to clarify, I like sitting in my 997 probably more than in my 66 and I can't explain it. However in reality, if I sold my 66 I would probably never find another one like it. I love my 66 even though its not a brand new fancy 997, its got soul and I drive it three times as much as I drive my 997. If I sold my 997 I could buy another one tomorrow. Same goes with the 86 you had, by then Porsche was really good at pumping out cars. You made the right choice.
