What would you pay?

Here is the scenario;

1987 porsche 911 coupe 2owner car 80,000 miles. All service records from new very well cared for. PPI done with mechanic stating "needs nothing, just drive it, solid car" excellent condition throughout. Just wondering what you would pay based on these facts. Thanks so much

possibly buying. I really like it but it seems that values are all over the place. I've been looking for a while and this particular one is nice. It seems for a 87-89 911 coupe non turbo values are 14000 to 30000. I dont want a project but I dont want a garage queen either

My neighbor is also looking at an '87 coupe with 57k mi. The guys is asking 26k but is open to offers post inspection. Look at the Kelly Blue then at Nada and see a wide difference in price. I reckon for a very nice car, between $21k and $22K. Just my humble opinon. As a sidenote my other neighbor just bought '93 coupe with 130k miles and it checked out fine for $15k.........go figure.

16 to 19k would be fairly purchased.

17-20 with the difference in the details. At 80K, you're right on the verge of knowing whether the valve guides are weak. And it's going to need a clutch soon if it's still sporting the original rubber-centered unit. A lot of things will need replacing at that mileage/age, wear items such as plug wires, brake hoses; fuel lines; door seals, just to get it up to snuff for driving because it obviously hasn't been. Other things that make a difference (or would to me): clutch fork upgrade performed? good log books showing fuel mileage and oil consumption; 8" fuchs?; any rare options?; color; full or partial leather; leaks; has it ever had an aftermarket alarm or stereo installed (these are easy hack jobs). These are great cars.

Understanding it's a low-mileage car, here are a few suggestions anyway: look under hood seal and behind quarter glass seals for corrosion. Measure the brake rotors because this is about the mileage for a gently driven car that they'll be gone if not replaced already.

Crachian makes a good point. Many of these 3.2s will have valve guide problems at 50-90K miles. that's a labor intensive fix with a lot of 'while you're in there' spending opportunities. Personally, I'd be more comfortable with a 3.2 that has had a documented valve guide replacement. If your car has that documentation, it's a plus.

No reflection on your PPI mechanic. but incipient valve guide problems are difficult to diagnose, and the problem gets worse fast once it starts.

Having said that, I'd personally pay a premium for a low-miles, documented G50 coupe.
