Rusty '69 911E
 

I'm thinking about selling my very rusty '69 911E targa and am looking for some value estimates. Rust is widespread, fenders, front pan, doors, rear torsion tube area. The car has a correct numbered engine (no COA but most likely matching with VIN) with the MFI still complete. Engine was supposedly "rebuilt" no docs. The PO never got around to repairing rust so it wasn't driven after the engine work. Original color signal orange under bad silver paint job. It has Fuchs rims but I haven't checked dates. Car seems complete except for the door pockets.

What's the value either as a restoration candidate or as a parts donor.

I have a 69 E coupe that sounds similar to yours in condition although the engine is non-matching (actually, it's from a 69E targa, which is quite a rare car by the way). I tried to sell it earlier this year and couldn't move it for $1500. I stored it away thinking that I could just cut it up and part it out in about 10 chunks and get at least that much for it and keep some of the good sheetmetal that I need (surprisingly, the rear seat pans, rear fenders, doors, roof, cowl, are all in nice shape and not rusted). Of course, now I'm thinking again about how much time that will take and what I'm going to do with the scraps. Oh, I'd add another $500 for the MFI at least. So I'd say you may be able to get two grand for it.

I agree with CConnor--about $2K. Sounds like too much to restore for most people, and the valued parts boil down to a MFI E engine of unknown quality. Door pockets, in perfect condition, could bring a lot, but they are missing. If the Fuchs are 15", they could bring close to $1K if in good condition. If they are 14", they won't bring much. Bottom line, I'd say it's a parts donor and if you have the time and space, you could get more by parting the small stuff once the engine is sold.

Thanks for the advice. If that's all it's worth I'll probably take it apart and store the parts for spares. The way parts prices have gone up and the amount of parts NLA from Porsche AG this seems to make the most sense.
