912e Value??
 

I would like to find out the value of my 76 912e . Silver with clearcoat peeling,125,000 miles, AC (needs charge), Sunroof. Been stored indoors for last 10 yrs. Dash, carpets are original and in 9.5/10 . only rust is on battery compartment (minor) and rt windshield corner (minor). California Car
A ballpark figure is all I am looking for.

On the plus side, only 2100 or so built. On the downside, they are slow and heavy compared to 911s and 914s. Paint work can be $$$$ to do "right".. ie $3-8K and since it is the first thing someone sees, they will look for a bargain. Rust can also be a dealbreaker as it is never cheap to have professionally repaired. My guess is that 912Es are $5-10K cars. Perfect ones, to the right buyer, maybe even $12-15K. The bulk I think are mired in the $4-8K range.

I pay attention to this. I've owned mine for ten years now. The prices are all over the place. A 912E certainly isn't heavy compared to a 911 but as you know they aren't exactly quick in stock form.

With regard to the question that you actually asked, the really nice low mileage ones approach and sometimes exceed 20k. You might have a hard time selling yours in CA because it needs to be smog compliant and its tough to find some of the injection parts you'll have to have in working order before selling it with a certificate. If the car is basically complete and has only minor rust and is as original as it sounds you should expect close to 10k in my estimation. The original ones, even if they aren't particularly pretty but aren't rusty, seem to be hovering in that area.

I agree with both Racer and Dave's pricing assessments.

Clean the car exceptionally well and if you can spend $500 fixing that A/C and the two rust issues, definitely do that. You'll get all your money back on those fixes.

Yes, it's worthwhile for you to fix all the problems you can. If you get it running and a smog certificate you'll be light years ahead. People get antsy about 912E's with injection problems because of the near impossibility of finding parts. A large percentage of the running 912E's left out there have been converted to carbs and some now are going to aftermarket EFI systems.
