Early 911 Value -- HELP!!
 

I have found what could be the perfect early 911 that I have been searching for for over a year. The best thing is that it is not listed for sale anywhere. I was lucky to have stumbled on this and want to pull the trigger if I get a good vibe on the asking price. I have no doubt of the credibility of the owner.

Here are the vitals:

1971 911 E, White/Black
All original, MFI intact
NO rust
Sport seats
Sunroof
Mechanicals rebuilt by well known Porsche mechanic
many S options

Full restoration completed this year with almost every major/minor part replaced on the suspension. New paint, interior, dash, door pockets, reupholstered seats, headliner, new tires, wheels refinished...almost 100k spent.


Please let me know what you think on what a fair asking price should be. I have not found a more well-sorted, highly optioned 911 anywhere.

A few of these have changed hands recently. I hate to guess anymore. From your description and the 100k restoration it could easily fetch over $50K. Check this thread form earlyS.

thanks for the thread Luke. Fortunately, this car has not changed hands in decades. I too have seen the many cars sell multiple times this year and the price suddenly ballooning with the new owner (even though nothing had been done to improve the car in the interim). I would not even consider buying a car like this from a flipper out of principle.

Well, sounds like a very nice one. Sport seats, sunroof, rebuilt motor, no rust. Sounds like somewhere north of 50k. If you like it jump on it.

If you've been looking for a year, you have most certainly looked at, missed, and passed on a number of cars. I would think you would know exactly what it's worth.

Thanks tfiv, I will take that advice to the bank with me. I guess old cars are just a little more complex than walking into a showroom.

Is there a good reason the car is on the market after such a high cost restoration has just been completed?

By your description it does sound like a near top of the market car. If you factor in color and the fact it is a 2.2L E coupe I would say mid-40K would be a fair # to start with. You will likely not get it for that but you can always go up if you really want it. I hope you will be able to see and drive it to confirm the quality and workmanship of the restoration. Let us know how it goes.:)

Whilst I appreciate what you've been told about the car, have it checked by a mechanic you can trust. Your mechanic not the seller's. My wallet still hurts from the last time I went by the shinny paint and nice description :(

As to the price, well these cars are ballooning, its not an S but if its that nice....
