That's a very nice looking, stock, sport-seated '73S.
$65K is not outrageous for that car, in fact, in the current market, if anything it is probably on the low side. |

Agreed with "the".
What a beautiful car. Genuine S coupes are becoming very difficult to find. And remember, $65k is only £32k and EUR 44k. |

Is it high? No, Not in my opinion.
I think what is shocking is the increased value of these cars in the last 12 months. A very similar car sold in the last 6 months for $55,000. on EBay. Looks like a bargain now. When I started looking for my long-hood 18 months ago a clean 69S went for $25,000. The Irish Green 70S [now sold] currently on EBay has a buy it now for $49,000 w/ a non-matching number motor or the black car that was at AutoKennel in roughly the same price range [now sold]. Given originality a $65,000. car is reasonable.

It looks like a poor restoration to me. The value could have been closer to $100K if it had shown nice 'patina' rather than full front trunk and underpan respray (and suspicious-looking resurfacing in the front pan area). Nice driver, though.

That's amazing, yet fantastic!
So, if the "S" is skyrocketing then I will assume the "T" will follow; however, only with a slower escalation of value. The only big difference between the "S" and "T" is the powertrain, trim package, front spoiler and brake calipers and of course production numbers. So if I took my "T" which was optioned with the "S" trim package and S-brake calipers, sunroof and factory AC and rebuilt the engine with "S" specifications, I would have a bastardized "T" like "S"!!!!!! The way I have seen the price difference between the "S" and "T" in value is a good 25-40k range. Of course their were a hell of alot fewer "S" models manufactured as well. I am not knocking the "S" but for an overall daily driver you cannot beat the "T"................. Bob 1973.5T Sepia of Course ![]() |

http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18918 There is one on Ebay with a $45,000 starting bid. Interestingly the starting price dropped $ 10,000 from its last listing. http://www.autosportdesigns.com/Sales/Salesphotos.aspx?ID=1354 I was a day late to purchase a near original, rust free 73T for $6000 w/o the motor. Given today's market it was a motor away from being a $20k+ car.

Hey Luke...
The longhoods are finally coming into their own as collectibles these days. Now is the time to stock up on parts because within a few years after the stuff has been bought up demand will mean big prices! A great article in the recent Panorama about the longhoods was comparing the 356 parts issues. Back in the 70's you could pick up any part new or used for a 356 at decent prices and without going to Stuttgard to get them. Today that rusty beat-up seat frame for a 356C at a fleamarket might cost you upwards of $500.00!! The parts for longhoods might face the same issues just a few years from now. Time to start collecting and holding them deep in the mine til later. I bought my 1973.5T about eight years ago because I always wanted to drive an older longhood Porsche. Needless to say the price for a totally restored "T" (34K in receipts) was 10K back then and I almost walked away from the deal. Today, she is just as pristine as I bought her and I am glad I never sold the car considering what they are bringing and what they will continue to bring as Porsche lovers come to know the longhoods as the Porsche that was meant to be a Porsche!! They are all great cars. Bob 73.5T Sepia of course ![]() |

Bob, Please post a picture of your car. My 73T is very modified with an updated power plant. It is a long way from how it left the factory. Luke ![]()

I am just kicking myself right now. I turned down the black 67 911s that was sold on ebay for $60k last week. The guy wanted $30k just six months ago. Why did I turn it down? I thought the seller was a d*ck. Lesson: you're buying the car, not marrying the guy.

My friends all thought I was nuts when I paid $26k for mine about 5 years ago. Lately they've pointed out that it doesn't seem like such a bad buy after all.
These cars are "end of an era", iconic cars for the marque; a high water mark for Porsche when they achieve significant performance w/o the advantage of modern engine management systems. They can't match the out right performance of the newer cars but they are definitely different and more visceral than the newer machines.

$20,000 for just a motor. This is 2.7 RS territory!

Euro 73 Carrera RS Touring auctioned @ $425K.
WOW! Last week Bonham's auctioned this 1973 Carrera RS Touring (w/some amateur racing history) for $425,000.
Unless I'm missing something, aside from some amateur racing provenance in the 70's, this looks like pretty much a 95% factory spec original / stock version (Euro) 73 RS Touring... crazy money. http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=EUR&screen=lotdetailsNoFla sh&iSaleItemNo=3825588&iSaleNo=16337&iSaleSectionN o=2 |

Oh, but who am I to talk.. my disassembled 73S has been tarted up in the same areas. It also sports SC flares, factory RS duck, 934 style welded strud brace, SC tank and 930 brakes. Shame on me! But then all that was done before anybody gave a damn. $65K huh..?
