Hello,
I have a 1964 Porsche 356C coupe that I recently acquired from the man whose barn it had been sitting in since 1991. The car washed up really well. The only rust of any significance is a small hole near the battery. All of the sheet metal seems to be original with the exception of the very front end. The chrome cleaned up really nice, however some pieces give away the age of the car. The larger pieces cleaned up the best. The wheels in the pictures are not from that car, but I have the original ones, including the hubcaps. I had to use something to get it out of the barn, since its tires were shot. The white paint looks pretty good from 20 feet, but it is not original. The original color was special order dolphin gray. The interior has been redone at some point, and is in pretty good condition. The wheels/axles turn just fine when you push it, and the brakes actually still work. However, I'm sure the brake system should be overhauled for safety reasons. The engine turns just fine by hand, however, I have not actually tried to start it yet. There are a lot of pictures here: http://s268.photobucket.com/albums/jj27/viperbyte7/ So what is this car worth as is??? Reasonable offers are welcome too. Thanks, David Wilson P.S. I was told that the car sat in another barn for 10 years prior to being moved to this barn, and that the car was a two owner car before I picked it up. I have also been told that it is a numbers matching car, but don't have the C.O.A. yet to prove it.

Wow, it looks very complete. I don't know much about 356 values (I sold mine long ago), but the fact that it's a C with disc brakes all around (the highest evolution of the 356 breed) should have appeal among the resto-collector crowd, resto-drive people and resto-outlaw fans. What a cool find! The car would be stunning restored to its original dolphin gray glory.

I don't know about 356 values either, but nice find. I'd be interested, but I'm sure its probably worth more than I would want to spend.

Nice find. I think there are a lot of question marks about the value of this car.
1) does the engine run 2) body work to the front end 3) not original color 4) battery box rust 5) brake work etc. although the "C" are worth a bit more than the "B" because of the disc brakes, one would have to wonder on how much work is necessary to make it driveable. There was a 65 "C" in the area that was asking for $20k recently. The $20k car has been maintained and driven regularly. My guess would be between $10-20k depending on how much work is required to get it back on the road. |

I sold my 65C a couple of months back for $25K on ebay and it was a decent reliable driver (certainly not a show car) with a nice silver over red combination, clean interior, but overall it was getting a little tired and the motor was not correct per the Kardex. Color was originally grey and some rust was bubbling through on the rear quarters but the pans, longitudinals and battery areas had been replaced. I tried to sell it locally but those who came to see it would only offer $14K or $15K so I suspect they were thinking about flipping it rather than driving it.
However, I see locally (So California) ads for restoration projects around the $20K mark but I don't think they ever sell because I keep seeing them reappear on CL. So based on the pictures and the fact that it has been restored a long time ago I would say that it was worth $15K. Unfortunately, my experience ws that buyers seem to want beautifully well restored cars or very original projects and yours fits in between. Ebay will yield a decent price if the buyer completes the transaction. Good Luck Kevin
