Help Me Price - 84 Euro 911 Targa w/ Hardtop

Well I have finally come to grips with having to sell my baby as the wife and I are planning to have a real baby. I am going to put this one on ebay (with Pelican boys getting first shot of course) in a few weeks and I am trying to gauge her vale.

Here is my first draft ad and info. Sorry about the length. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Good:

This is an excellent example of a well taken care of 1984 911 Targa with deep documentation that shows a pride of ownership over the years. This car pulls hard and the extra Euro HP make her a blast to drive. The car does not leak oil and is in perfect mechanical condition. This car is no garage queen, she has been my daily driver since I bought her as long as the weather is nice and here in San Diego that is almost always! I have worked out all of bugs and she is ready to move on to a new home as my wife are getting ready to expand our family and the Porsche that I had planned on always keeping has got to go. My loss is your gain!

Since I bought the car I have spared no expense in keeping her running at the optimum level. Regular oil changes and detailing have been performed at a highly regarded independent Porsche shop in San Diego. The suspension and emission system have been completely overhauled since I have owned her. I upgraded the 915 transmission with an awesome performance shifter and coupler that have removed the slop common in 915s and has made for a very crisp shifting driving experience. The original shifter and all parts will be included in the sale.

The car comes with two Targa tops, one is a standard Targa soft top that is in very good shape with only one small penny size tear and the second top is a gorgeous aftermarket fiberglass hardtop. The fiberglass hardtop is a fantastic design that actually mounts on the original Targa soft-top frame providing a very nice seal and greatly reducing wind noise common on Targas. To mount the hardtop I had to take apart my original soft-top and use the bones from the original top to mount the new hardtop. Not wanting to live without a soft-top I acquired a soft-top in very good condition with minimal sag to compliment the hardtop. The buyer will get both tops and all of the soft-top parts not used in the hardtop conversion.

The previous owner had installed a new head unit with an under seat alpine amp and very nice sounding Boston Acoustic speakers in the doors and back shelf. The head unit was a bit dated so I replaced it with a Kenwood EZ500 and the Kenwood iPod adapter. I leave the iPod in the glove compartment giving me a nice jukebox of my favorite tunes. I also added an Infiniti Basslink powered sub in the truck in front, which really filled out the sound. The Basslink dies a few months back and I have yet to have it replaced. All of the mounts and wiring is still in place and a Basslink can be had on ebay for around $200. Even without the sub the sound of this system is very good although I have to admit I find myself wanting to listen to the engine more than my music most of the time.

The Bad:

The front drivers seat has a decent size tear on the door side of the back support at the rear corner. The driver’s seat could use to be recovered but aside from the tear it is in very good shape.

The dash has a plastic cover that is cracked. I have never taken the cover off and do not have any idea regarding the condition of the dash itself.

There is a very minor leak that originates inside the transmission. My mechanic believes that this leak is coming from one of the transmission seals. At oil service the transmission fluid is topped off with Swepco and it has not been a problem. Over the course of a year I would estimate around two to three tablespoons of transmission fluid falls on the garage floor.

One of the previous owners kept a bra on the front of the car and there is some very minor rust on the lip of the hood. It is not very noticeable and has never bothered me enough to have it repainted.

There are the typical rock chips on the front of the car as wel as on the side mirrors. Nothing excessive.

There are a few chips on the rear bumper as well as a chip on the rear driver’s side fender. The doors and rest of the car are free of any major dings.

The Targa bar is faded in a few spots and could really use a touch up. I had planned on getting the Targa bar repainted at the same time I repainted the hardtop but never got around to it.

The hardtop fiberglass targa roof is in very good shape although the rails are scratched somewhat. The roof also has a star crack in the gel coat where one of the underside mounts put extra pressure on the gel coat. The fiberglass is not damaged. The inside part of the roof has a vinyl covering that I installed and the edges are starting to peel where the glue I used is starting to fail. An upholstery shop would be able to fix this and replace the vinyl in a more professional manner.

The chrome wheels clean up very nice and look good but there is some minor staining that a professional polishing service would take right off. There is very little curb rub or pitting to the chrome.

AC is no longer blowing cold. I had the AC serviced two years ago and it blew very cold for more than a year. After several months of not running the AC the barrier hoses leaked the Freon. The past service included a dye leak check that showed no major system leaks so another recharge should get it blowing cold again.

The rear tires need to be replaced. The front tires look good but a new owner may want to replace them all at the same time.
