79 911sc with high mileage?

Hi Pelicans,

I'm looking at a '79 911sc with what I consider to be high mileage - 230,000. I'll be taking it for a PPI before any purchase, and will be investigating what the state of the engine is -- but what should my fears be regarding a car with this many miles on it? Most of the SC's I've been looking at have been in the 120-150K range.

Any advice would be appreciated...!

The 3.0 engine is pretty stout and 200K without a rebuild seems to be the norm. Make sure whomever does the PPI pulls the valve covers and looks for broken head studs as this seems to be the weakspot in the 3.0 engine. Also check and see if there are any receipts for suspension work. At 250K the stock bushings, struts and shocks are probably toast.
