Value of '71 911E project car
I have 1970 911E hard top stripped body with hood and drivers door, as well as a 1971 911E Targa that I was going to combine into a single car. The Targa was purchased first and had significantly more rust that the seller disclosed. It is a compete car with the original E engine, and looks to have about 65-70,000 miles. My original idea was to take the parts from the Targa and build up the Coupe, which has significantly less rust.
I also have things like a full set of extra blicker boxes, extra set of front fenders, brand new brakes on the front before I started tearing apart the Targa, new master cylinder, new rotors from and rear, spare sheet metal for the front clip, and more. What would be reasonable value for the two of them together? I would hate to do it, but would it make more sense to part the two of them out? Any help would be appreciated. I will try to get photos of the two uploaded. |

Projects like that require local buyers, which limits your market. If your project cars were local to me, I'd say you have value in the $10K range there, at least.

Thanks for the rough ball park without a lot of detail or pictures. I'm in the process of trying to get some pictures taken and uploaded. The problem will be with finding a local buyer here in Detroit.

I would disagree with the idea that the car would only be of interest to a local buyer. About a month ago I sold my 1970 911T targa with a body in "B" condition and an interior in "C" condition not running for $6666. It went to Germany, so figure the guy paid another grand+ in freight on top of that price. The fact that it's an "E" or more accurately, two "E"'s and you'd probably see the $10k suggested above and could get it more quickly on the world market through Ebay. It's 7 or 10 days to sell it. I see cars like yours and mine sit on Craigslist for months. In fact, I tried to sell mine on Craigslist for $5000 for a month with only one serious person in the whole time. That's when I took it to Ebay and it's now happily gone to a good home where it will be restored. I don't subscribe to the "keep them American" mentality.
Along those lines, a lot of members here hate Ebay with a passion. To each their own. I personally find it a great marketing tool to get my cars and parts in front of the world market. And because of exchange rates, I make more money on the world market. That's just business.
