Selling my SC DE Car

Hi guys,

I am contemplating selling my DE / Street Hot Rod due to health reasons. I just can't do the track thing any longer.

She's an '80 SC that has had a lot of work done to her. Car is registered for street use.

Firstly, I just had a $35K engine built from the ground up. This engine has 0 miles/ hours on it! I have not driven the car after the engine build yet! The car probably has another $25K into it. I built this car for my needs and taste.

Here is a list I put together of mods and equipment.

Engine 415 hp at Flywheel / 360 hp Rear Wheel
3.7 Litre Displacement
102 mm LN Nickies Cylinders
3.2 Crank - Stroked to 76.4mm – 2” NASCAR bearings – Center drilled
Pauter H Beam Con Rods
ARP Rod Bolts
Ported 3.2 Cyl Heads
Boattailed Case
Smart Racing Remote Oil Filter Console
Fidanza Lightend Flywheel
Dougherty DC-62 Cams on 102° Lobe Centers
TWM 52mm ITB’s
Haltech Stand-alone Engine Management (custom program)
Crank Fired Ignition (custom made) w/ Accel Coipl Packs and Bosch Ignitors
1¾” George Nabel Racing Headers
M&K 2 in 2 out SS Sport Muffler
B&B Front Mount Oil Cooler
Suspension
Elephant Polybronze bushings
Elephant Triangulated Brace
Smart Racing Adjustable Front & Rear Sway Bars
Hollow Torsion Bars
23mm Front / 32mm Rear
Bilstien HD Shocks
Turbo Tie Rods
Bump Steer Kit
Brakes
930 Calipers front & rear
Front OEM floating rotors
930 Master Cylinder
Stainless Brake Lines
Custom Alum Brake Cooling Plates – Ducted to Front Bumper
AP Racing 600° Fluid
Tires / Wheels
Kodiak 8” Front /9” Rear
Yokohama A048 225/255
Interior
Cobra Imola seats (GT width)
Teamtech 6 Pt Harnesses
RS carpeting
OG Racing Full Roll Cage w/ removable side bars
Halon Fire Extinguisher on custom mount
Misc
Rennshift Shifter w/ Momo knob
Smart Racing removable steering wheel hub
Momo steering wheel
Rennline Alum. Race pedals
Rennline Alum Dead Pedal
Braille Batttery
Rennline Smugglers Box Battery Mount
Remote shutoff pull switch thru cowl
Seine front CF hood prop
Wevo engine mounts
Rennline SS RSR Engine Mount

MA Shaw FG IROC Front Bumper / Spoiler
MA Shaw FG Rear Bumper
Early 930 Tail

Kodiak Racing Wheels 8” / 9”
Yokohamma A048 Track Tires

2400 lbs The power to weight ratio is that of a 997 Cup car.

I'd sell the car with my Trailex trailer with winch, new brakes, new tires on alloy wheels as a package.

Any idea of value???? What should I ask? I think I'd sell the whole shooting match for $35K. I'd love to get $40K. I don't know if that's realistic.

I'm not in a rush to sell nor do I need the cash desparatley.

Thanks for listening. Any advise is welcomed.

Awesome. Will take the right person. Try it on Ebay with a $35K buy it now or best offer (not a true auction) and see what happens. I did a 62' 190 Mercedes like this and made a lot of contacts and learned about the market.

I forget what did you do for transmission, I would think that would shred 915s.

I wonder if it would be worth having a 7 out of 10 paint job on it for curb appeal?

Wow.. Sounds like an amazing motor!

Personally? Hard sell in this market. You could likely pull the motor and sell on its own (perhaps theres a GT class PCA Racer looking for motor) and put in a simple, understressed factory 3.2 (0r 3.6). I say this because many who look for a DE car want something simple and reliable. Putting down 350+hp (I'd have dyno sheets to back up any hp claims) can be a bit daunting.

Could take a long time to sell because of the mods, which may or may not make the car "competitive" in any potential race series (PCA, POC, NASA, SCCA etc)

Also, as an '80, while it may qualify for antique/classic tags, in this day an age, emmissions are on peoples mind. Certainly not "streetable" to anyone in California this way. Which, again, limits your buying pool.

Keep appearance in mind too. A one color car (or one with a slick "pro" look) will catch a buyer quicker than a multicolor scheme.

I agree with your comments.

I personally think that selling the engine would be the right thing to do. Maybe able to sell the engine for 15-20K??? Sell the Trailex separately. I'd be close to what I want for the whole thing.

I'd drop in a 3.2 and be done with it. And still have a car that I could sell for a decent price if necessary.

I could then keep the car and enjoy a little hot rod light weight.

I still have my M491 to cruise/tour with.

But a little voice says be done with the whole mess.

Keep it going.

Thanks
