1987 Carrera Cab - Value?

Thinking about finally buying that older Porsche that I've always wanted.

I have the opportunity to buy a:

* 1987 Carrera Cab
* ext: dark blue
* int: dark blue
* 47K miles
* new black top
* new tires
* needs an A/C refresh

for about $18K.

I obviously need more details, but I wanted to get your collective opinion re: the price before I spend the time examining / buying the car.

My confusion is that I can't find any reliable data on '87 cab prices. And, with this crazy economy, I think prices are flat to down.

Thoughts?

Also, can anyone recommend a good shop for a PPI in Northern VA?

That sounds like a great price if all is well with the PPI. I paid the same 4 years ago for my 62K car.

For PPI suggestions post in the Tech forum with your question in the title.

Good luck.

Thats a very good price for that car if it PPI's well. Dont post the seller on these boards someone may steal it at that price.

Good luck with the purchase

Sold mine to a broker same mileage excellent condition for $25k.
He re-sold for a lot more!

Sounds like a steal for a G50 car.

Thanks for the feedback. I've contacted the Seller and asked for more info. I'll be looking at the car this weekend (hopefully).

I just got a few pics and the car looks like it's in great shape.

It has polished Fuchs, which is not my preference, but definitely not a deal killer (see attached picture).

I'd prefer guards red w/black interior, non-polished wheels and no whale tale, but I'm willing to compromise for a nice example, which I think this is...

Looks like a beautiful car. I like the look of the wheels, but also like you I prefer no spoiler, I think even more so on a cab. But you can easily change decklids. I think the price is very good if the miles are correct and all is good with a ppi.

Good luck

Matt

Close the deal before the seller wakes up.......

That's actually a Turbo Tail (Tea Tray) fwiw. And there is no front spoiler so if you keep the tail, add the spoiler. The car looks great but remember that pictures & POs can lie.

Under the heading, 'If a deal is too good to be true, it probably isn't..." I got the VIN and ran a CarFAX. Turns out the car had 217K+ miles on it 5 years ago.

So, I'm passing.

BTW, I've expanded my search to include SCs, 964s and (I know this is heresy) Boxsters.

I'm looking for a well maintained, relatively low mileage car at a reasonable price and it seems like there are a ton of Boxsters out there.

Also, there are some relatively inexpensive 993s with reasonable miles in great shape going for mid 20s right now.

So, I'm keeping my options open...and will update you guys w/status.
