Actually, this kind of thing used to be common in newspaper ads.
One ad would list the car at a price much higher than market value, to make another ad look attractive - and make the one feel they were getting a great deal at the lower price. And if someone were to purchase the item at the higher price - more the better. Since eBay doesn't list the reserve prices (and I don't see a "buy it now" price), this would have to have been bit up to certainly levels by the seller, or their agents. I don't know if this falls under the legal definition of fraud, but it sure is slimy. It also could be that they saw the price wasn't getting high enough, so they started a new auction with the same item, and put in higher bids themselves, or via an agent. eBay does clear up the duplicate ads from time to time. I don't know if it is daily, but notice that at least weekly there is a correction.
And it is not just Victory, a number of sellers on eBay do post their ad twice (or more). |
