$30K mark up on a Pink Slantnose
 

Saw this one on ebay about a month or two ago for like $37K 'buy now or best offer'....although then it had some aesthetic flaws, still clearly has paint issues.

Trying to turn a Pink Porsche, and with a mark up of $30K to boot? Did I miss something? Did the economy suddenly rebound?

This car does not have a $30k markup. The color combo is certainly not for everyone but, then again, if every 911 was silver/black it would get a little boring at the events, wouldn't it? ;)

That is indeed what the bumper looked like when I got the car but it will be good as new for the next owner.

Nice to see you took it up a notch. I'd hate to see a car like that go down hill slowly. I even think the color typifies the over the top nature of the whole slantnose theme. Mine is more subtle but it probably would have been Mexico Blue had I purchased it new at the time. Just a question on the steering wheel. Any idea why it doesn't have the crest right of center? Definitely acquired at a good price...

This car is clearly a product of the crazy time when it was built. Not that it was necessarily subtle then, but we're talking about the era of Miami Vice and Def Leppard so it kinda fits the image. As for the steering wheel, I'm not really certain. My best guess is that the original wheel may have been light grey like the seat inserts and got grubby over the years (as they tend to do) so it was replaced.

I also agree that the car was underpriced, regardless of the color combo. Pink is not as easy to sell as silver or black, but I think anybody would agree that a genuine factory 930 "505" Slantnose Coupe with good miles and a clean history is worth well over the $30k's.

I was wondering why everyone was talking about the car being $69,000 because I had listed it at $59k OBO on all of the other classified sites. I made a mistake with the asking price on my ad here and it has since been corrected.

Incidentally, business is business. I can tell you straight up if I saw that car on eBay for 35k I sure as heck would have taken the time to check it out and scoop it for a flip. Whats funnier is on an easy flip I may have bought it and offered it to Tim myself!

For those of you who don’t know Tim, he’s one of the good guys in the used Porsche business, IMO. I have never bought a car from him but I have sold a car at a good price to him and he’s gone out of his way to help me on other sales of my own cars and opinions and inspections of cars I considered with nothing in it for him.

Don't mention it! Please keep us posted on the status of your investment. If you can make upwards of 80% on your money in this market environment, well that would be something to cheer about. And in such an unconventional way. LOL and all that....

A pink slant with cat claws and boxed rockers. Wow. It can't get anymore 1987 than this.

This would make a great concours car. I love odd colors, though I'm not sure I'd like to be seen driving it, but at a concours or car show, it would be the "talk of the town". As a concours judge, I'd be all over this thing like flies on s_ _ t. Odd stuff subconciously gets a judge's eye.

Again, I wouldn't drive it in this day and age, but I'd love it as a show car.

Ummm, is it a crime to make money? After all, Tim is in the business. Sounds like he made a good buy, and being a facr 505/car in a rare/odd color. I would think he'll get a premium on the resale, how much of a premium I don't think is really anybodies business.. unless of course you're the purchaser.

I sure as hell mad money on my 87 930s when I sold it! The guy had to have it and I really didn't want to part with it at the time.. he gave me a ridiculous number and I asked "if he wanted gift wrapped?"

Same thing happened with a beautiful 840Ci BMW I had. The wife of a friend fell in love with the car while visiting. They asked to buy it, I quoted an unreal number for that car. They returned to GA, I got a Christmas card from them with a check for half & a note that stated that I'd get the balance and a plane ticket home whenever I decide to drive the car down!

I admitted to them that the price quoted was too much, and had been quoted to discourage them. I even offered to find them a similar car at a better price. They wanted my car "because they knew it had been lovingly cared for" and they liked the additional goodies I had installed (Racing dynamics aero kit). Needless to say I had a fun last ride in the car to Georgia.

I agree with Jay H. I think this car would make an excellent concours candidate..odd cars do catch the eye.

Ummm, absolutely not! Believe me, that is a point I have argued with more pelican heads than I can even begin to tell you about.

I just can't wait to see if Tim's business model works.

Start with an economy in free fall, find an oddball car that is lingering on ebay, and purchase it anyway. Then simply ad $20 to $30K mark up (depending on where you advertise it).

If that works, Tim is a God in my book!
