Buying a 1999 Carrera 2 Cabriolet???

Looking for help and insight on my plan to buy a 1999 Cabriolet from the US to bring to Canada.

Has 26000 miles and seems to be priced right.

Any owners out there that know of issues I should look for?

I am a PCA member in Canada with a 87 944 and have used Pelican as a resource for years but am new as a member and appreciate your help!

Never owned one, but have heard and read from reliable sources that the 996 Models are well known for their engine Rear Main Seal failure. Don't know what the exact failure rate is, but it requires either buying a new motor or tearing the one you have all the way down.
Even better, as a prospective buyer, it is hard to inspect to know if there is a problem, and there is no sure fix for it. In other words it could happen again

I would post the question on Rennlist, the forums are very active with the water-cooled models.

I was looking at 1999 but after reading The Used 911 Story possible problems on page 175, I was concerned. Early engines were replaced by Porsche for hydraulic lock. Something to due with casting porosity. He recommends giving the VIN# to a dealership and have them look up the warranty history to verify the engine was replaced.
