rs rsr engine number HELP!!
Hi all
Need help decoding this engine number. 66505** last two digits not listed for security reason. is this engine a rsr 911/75 what is it worth??? CHEERS |
This is a '75 Carrera 2.7 motor which is the same motor used in the '73 Carrera RS. It is type 911/83 which should be stamped on the case just to the right and below the serial # stamping.
These are valuble motors but the value depends on the condition, records, and the presence of all the important correct MFI components. Can you give a more detailed description of what you have? |
Might also be worth a lot more to whoever has the car it belongs in, if still
around. There weren't a lot made with that engine in '75. |
75 engine #
i have a complete engine with all mfi in place, but engine has been sitting in shed for last 8 years so in need of complete rebuild.
What is it worth as a rebuilder. No porsche it was scraped many years ago. How many were built?? |
How many 911/83 motors altogether made?
'73-1580 '74-1469 '75-715 '76-123 (maybe 30 more from Targas this year) Value on a core '74 or '75 911/83 engine is a bit hard to pin down, especially in this market. I would hope it would be at least $8-9K or more but you may not get any interest at all at that level, hard to say. |
Brian's pretty much spot on regarding today's market price. Do look at the date codes on the MFI pump and heads. I have a early '75 911/83 motor and all the date coded components are from the 6th and 7th month in '73, which seem to have more value.

I'm actually curious as to what these motors would be valued at too...I have a 1976 911 Targa that has a case number (6640261), unfortunately, the original MFI components must have been removed since it currently has a CIS. I can't smog the damn thing in CA since it doesn't have the ability to have smog equipment installed and CA stopped the 30-year roll over for smog.

Core value on a 911/83 engine should start at $8-9K, simply because of what the components are selling for. If the engine was stored in a temperature-controlled environment and set up for storage - with oil in the cylinders, and occasionally turned over, I'd say +$1-2K. I was offered $20K+ for an RS clone engine built on an unstamped 7R case, so I presume a genuine, documented rebuilt 911/83 could be in the mid-$20K range.
