Rust bucket is back

Yes, the 66 "barn find" with nice red interior that "sold" for $21K is back--some surprise. The ad copy is the same but the seller has added a slam on the Frenchman who was the high bidder.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-Porsche-911-S-webers-all-original-barn-find-no-res_W0QQitemZ220387470895QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Car s_Trucks?hash=item220387470895&_trksid=p4506.c0.m2 45&_trkparms=65%3A-1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
It'll be interesting to see to what height the current auction reaches.

The seller is a "piece of work" His ad shows limited photos of the rust damage and he is blaming the French? How do you say "rust bucket" in French?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/behead.gif

We figured the deal would never complete at the previous $21,000 price tag.

Macroni 03-31-2009 03:25 AM

Here is what $21,000 will buy.

Early 66' for sale

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

66' 911 for sale. The car is polo red / black interior. The car is mostly original. Solex carbs and the motor is original to the car. 5 spd, sunroof coupe. The interior is out of the car as the floors are in need of repair and the longitudinals may need replaced as well. The car ran last summer and held idle for 20 minutes or so... then a leak from one of the carbs occurred and i had to shut it down. may be a accelerator pump diamphram that was punctured. early vin 303233, the car has fuchs on it however they are not included with the car. needs restoration, it may take me a couple days to get pics.

email for pics : kpkhockey@hotmail.com

asking 21,000

You're right.. most people said that deal wouldn't go down once the high bidder either saw the car or more detailed pics.

I spoke with him on the phone during last auction and he came across as sincere. He had zero problem with pre purchase inspection. I just never had the time to get out there and then the auction went to crazy level. He was willing to deal at about a little more than 1/2 of final bid. What is strange is the other 2 high bidders also didn't take??

The car was covered in a garage and if you are from the East you know the condensation is worse then leaving out in rain if trapped between cover and car. I think the rest of the car really is rust free. Hood, trunk? and depending on roof pit??

Then again I am going by his word?

Good luck!!!

The interior in this car appears to be cherry and could be worth the initial asking price of $6000 alone to someone restoring a 1966. With that being said there is NO shortcut around rust. For a proper restoration every inch of this car would have to be inspected. This would require a total dismantle and stripping of the metal. Speedo in his SWB restoration thread shows in detail what it takes to handle a project of this magnitude as a DIYer w/ mad skills and an over the top passion. I personnally undertook a restoration of a 69 w/ rust issues as a checkbook mechanic. IMO, the costs are nose bleed high. This car is in much worst shape than mine was. Be clear this car is rusted about as bad as they can rust. If you brought it to a top shop it would be a 6 figure restoration.

+1

When he goes on in the Q & A to say that 'late 66s were outfitted like '67Ss...' you know he's not someone you want to deal with. Maybe there's a sucker out there, but I pity the fool. At least the French are now safe!

Not a fan, but it seemed appropriate.

My first Porsche (a '66) looked far better than that, but at only 5 years from new, had open gaps around the entire periphery of the floor, front to back. The rockers did not support the car, as I found out when I tried to jack it up and the jack moved while the car did not. So I know whereof I speak. That car is a $30K liability. Or $5K worth of parts.

AndyK! 04-07-2009 06:08 AM

sold for $14.6K

Rust bucket sold for $14.6K with a total of 29 bids. It will be interesting to see if this vehicle reappears on e bay in the next few weeks.

It would be nice if there was a way to get these pics to the high-bidder.
