1993/94 rs america....thoughts
Hi all,
Can you give me some background on the market for these cars....what they were selling for 5-10 years ago, 2-3 years ago.....where they are selling now? As an example lets say 50-75k miles, very good condition, documented service history, no issues, etc. I am leaning towards white or silver, with the least/no options I can find. I will probably buy early next year and hold for 10+ years and put maybe 2k miles a year on it, want to stay under 100k....I am starting to follow the market now. Where do we see the market going....I am assuming up, yes? Not looking to really make any money ( I have a job for that) want the car to drive it for fun, but I am curious about thoughts on appreciation going forward. I can remember this car sitting on the show room floor when my mom was buying her 968 in 1993. To me it is the last year that still has all of the visual cues/lines that can be traced back through time...a true modern icon. Thoughts? Thanks Kevin |

A friend bought a tracked car for $25k. A perfect low mileage example will sell for $43 to $45k. Yours sounds between those two.

i find the RS america values to be interesting. when the RS america was introduced the car magazines basically felt it was a great car but there were not many differences between it and a regular carrera2. in europe the RS had many differences that were not simply bolt on upgrades (or parts simply left off). it would not be difficult to convert a C2 to RS America spec. compared to the extra work the factory did for the original 73 RS, the RS America really wasn't very special. However it has held it's value better than any other modern car, the only other car that comes to mind is the land rover defender.
I think your plan is good - get a good car and keep it original and don't put too many miles on it. not sure if it is the most fun but it will hold its value for the long term.

I agree....one of my other favorite all time cars/trucks is the D90 NA....regardless of performance on the RS compared to the regular c2, I think it is an interesting example of a limited production run vehicle before it was a marketing ploy to do such things. I think the deleted options/comforts speak to a "purist" nature, as does the D90.....they both do what they were intended to do really well.

Depends on what you want. When I ordered a new 1992 RSA we thought they would be more special than they turned out to be and produced in far fewer numbers than happened. The only reason they didn't sell a lot more was lack of demand. Americans preferred their Porsches puffy.
The EARLY RSA cars WERE in some days more special than the Factory stated. They were built on Cup chassis and had seam welding and rolled rear fenders. It was easy to distinguish them from the later cars [like 1994 models] by pinching the rear fender above the wheel well openings. They felt very different than the later RSA cars. In the day the RSA was about $10k cheaper than a C2. Now they are a good $10-20k more expensive! They are nice driving but not particularly powerful 911s. Very attractive looking, except for some cheapness in the interior. I think the looks more than anything are responsible for their prices. You have to change so much to make them into good track cars that you might as well start with a less expensive C2. For the driving experience, a used C2 is a much better value but in terms of long term $$ a well kept RSA, especially an early one, will be the best return on the money. BTW you DO want a/c and LSD. The a/c is so integrated into the electronics and important to comfort and resale that you DO want it. JR |

I sold a white 93 out of the problem duel mass range with all 4 options 2 1/2 years ago for $34,000 to a friend. I was asking and would have held for $36,000 if not for friend. Car was bone stock, excellent, no excuse 38,000 mile car. Excellent stock condition will bring most $. For every 5 I see advertized 4 have been modded pretty hard. I paid 32 for the car 3 years prior with 26,000 miles. I believe a car like your looking for around can be had 40-45ish. I see some waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay higher but highly doubt they are selling.
