Barfff!

I like to believe that they use wrecked 911's for this kind of thing. Any bets on if he upgraded his brakes? I can just hear it now "it pulls like a train off of the line". Yeah...and it also stops like a train too.

Edit:
Is the guy with the papers in his arms the judge? If so where is he going?

I was there as well. Did you see where they put the radiators in the 914? I didn't spend too much time looking, but it appeared as though they were side mounted somewhere. Not a typically Renegade system unless they changed it.

I am still not entirely sure the point, but that has been discussed before.

There was a nice Caterham there. I think it was a superlight.

Jeez those pipes stick so far out that he should tie little orange flags around the ends.

heheh, that sale car is a cover car of the vw&porsche magazine from the eighties. The article had also a badass 914, they were awesome in those days. Have to scan that. Whats amazing is that its on that same shape after 20 years. ;-)

Well, I do like the built-in Bar-B-Q grill over the left rear fender

...that would be very handy for weekend tailgate parties.

But it does need a larger/taller rear wing.

The Western Project signage in the background is painfully telling.

Probably has plenty o’ torque, though.

This is NOT a renegade conversion. But it is Rod Simpson's original Porschev conversion done at home in the driveway, probably before some of you were born .
Simpson was the originator of the commercially available kit to plug a chevy into a 911 or 914.
He sold lots of kits over the years until his hard crash in a porschev at willow springs on a cobra club weekend. That put him in the hospital and he has not recovered fully from that. I am sure he would have refined his kit as technology improved.
As it is this swb 911 has indeed suffered this unusual "upgrade" that many don't find too appealing (then and now)

Renegade has done a lot of work in making these types of conversions work in terms of aesthetics, performance, and reliability

Its partner 914 with a V8 was pretty "sleeper". Looked like a normal 914, Aside from Z28 Badges ans the exhaust.

Hey flame throwers, cool your jets. That car is a bit of So-Cal Porsche history. It's what hot rodding is all about. Just a clever guy, without a ton of cash, making something himself that's faster and more interesting than the other guy's ride. In the day when that car was built there where no 3.2's and 3.6.'s to put in long hoods so this guy came up with a new idea. Simpson tested at road race courses and most of the cars on this board would be hard pressed to keep up with this or his other wacky creations. I'd rather check out one of these than talk about $4000 early sport seats any day.

The blue colored "Porchev" license plate means the car was made before 1982. Pretty cool.

Are we talking weight here? A dressed small block is around 500 Pounds. But my understanding is that's about exactly what a 3.3 weighs in at. I imagine you could count on adding 100lbs counting the cooling system, maybe even 200lbs but I've got a feeling that won't make a 911 stop like a train.

I don't care for the way it looks either and a non porsche powered porsche doesn't excite me as much; but I wouldn't mind taking it for a spin.

Its mostly a classic/hot rod/american car deal, but there is always great stuff to look at. Last year there were way more "rat rods", this year a good amount of Low riders. Handful of beautiful Chargers, etc etc. The Barris parts changed 100% from last year. Nice because I can walk from my house.

go to flickr and search culver city car show 2009
