Yeah, that is on the low end, and I've been watching for many months now.

It would seem to even be lower than the "Rennlist -30%" rule. Take the average rennlist classified asking price and subtract 30% off the top and then factor in the condition of the car.

The prices of pre G50 carreras and SC's seems to be blending a bit too.

duno 12.5K for an 86 carrera with toasted seats... I would not make that an indicator. It is not cheap to recover seats.... The interior can be a good bell weather as to how the car was cared for as well.

Prices do seem off a bit but I would not let that add make my price point. 116k mile carrera needing probably 3k spent on interior so 15.5K with interior done does not seem all that off to me.

Interesting but well known price difference; in South Africa, a fairly well maintained 86 Carrera would cost you at least USD 30K at the current exchange rate.

They're all 20K cars when all is done to put them right.

Who knows why his car is so cheap?
Could be the owner has just been laid off and his wife said the "toy" must go.
Or there could be a lot wrong with the car.

This is not an indicator that air cooled 911s are coming down in price.

If anything they're getting more expensive. (Here in Australia anyway)

I have been noticing the 3.2 w/ 915 cars "blending" with SCs too (as said above). I have seen several cars (including that one) that I thought would be good back date candidates.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me and If it were me, I would just find some nice seats on here for maybe 500 bucks and save the other 2500.

Seems to me that prices overall are coming down on cars and almost everything else. If you are in the market for just about anything.........probably now is a good time to shop and buy it!

I've noticed that there are A LOT more good deals on Porsches lately than when the economy was booming. (For obvious reasons) There are actually some unbelievable deals that I've seen come up too, but get swooped up immediately! I've also noticed that there are some great deals on exotics like Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. as well!

I've been helping some people looking for SCs and Carreras lately, and although there are some examples like the above, I've discovered that the market is rewarding quality and punishing problem cars. For instance, there's an SC in California that's priced aggressively, but the entire rear clip has been replaced. There's a 964 for sale at a great price, but it needs a top end overhaul, at minimum. The great cars are still commanding premium prices.

Disclaimer: I have to judge on asking prices, of course. Final transaction prices are not easy to come by.

It would be a great service if pelican required the transaction price to be published on the for sale thread after the deal had closed. I'm sure there are a myriad of legalisms that make this foolish, but one can dream.

Many times, either seller or buyer wants the final deal kept quiet. In some states, there is a sales tax on used cars based on selling price, and (shocker) often that selling price is under-reported to tax authorities.

I can respect the buyers or sellers privacy, but I don't think the DMV will look up the sales price on the internet. It is impressive when they can transcribe your DL # correctly off your license.

Interestingly, in the latest issue of Excellence Magazine Bruce does his Market Evaluation of 1974 to 1989 Porsches. He claims that all models from the 1974-1977 911's, 1978-1983 SCs and 1984-1989 Carrera's ALL have gone up in price since last year. I never understood where he got his data to come up with these values, but I always view Bruce's evaluations as hopeful!

I believe in todays marketplace good buys are out there, but you have to be at the right place at the right time to catch them. You have to have cash in hand, be ready to transport a vehicle across country, know the shops for the PPI and be patient through the process.

Excellence is in the business of selling mags. Therefore, it is easy to understand the slant.

Funny, so does the PCA (Panorama Magazine), any and all Newspapers with classified sections and Car Trader, to name a few. I do not buy Excellence to check Bruce's latest market update report; however, his evaluations do provide a fair and reasonable view of the Porsche market based on his research. If Bruce provides some optimisitc news regarding the current sales and the market improving for Porsches, I'll take that!
