Value of a 73S with non matching number

Hello all, I have an opportunity of purchasing a 73S targa. It is complete with recaro sport seats and what looks like correct fuchs. It is a driver and had a repaint in original color about 13 years ago however the car is not a junker. It looks nice and straight, interior has the usual dash cracks but seats and all panels seems clean. Very little surface rust throughout the car and no structural rust. Original motor was replaced by a 71E motor with Weber carbs on it currently. Original motor and MFI has been long gone so the car is what it is now. It is a nice driver with decent power but just not original. What should I be paying for this car? Should I look for an original E instead or give this car a chance and hope a correct motor might surface some day. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Desperately searching for the right longnose =)
BTW, not searching for a concours car just a nice driver.
Regards

Non-matching is not an issue if you locate the correct vintage 2.4S motor. They are readily available.
Buy it cheaply, sell the E motor plug in the correct S motor and rock out. otherwise pass on it.....

Pricing is highly subjective, but the car you're describing could be high 20s/low 30s. It's a good car for your stated purpose, especially if you drive and enjoy it while you look around for a correct engine to install. That should increase the value of the car beyond what it will cost you (net) to put in the engine.

Thank you for the reply, his asking price is mid 20's and I am really tempted to jump on it. I think overall its a decent car and if I ever find that motor and a 2.4S MFI I be in heaven =).
So the search begins......

Thanks again
