Anyone have actual selling prices for '87- '89 Carreras?

I know people will ask well into the 20's for really nice, low mileage cars. What about the rest? Mine is nice inside, clutch and tranny work great with the clutch upgrade. Paint is nice for the most part, but old with some chips. There have been touch ups and the bumpers (original) will be freshly painted. Good glass. Black over black with a sunroof. Very good Toyos on 7 and 8 Fuchs.

Those are some of the better points. The engine is tired and is high mileage (240K) with no rebuilds. It smokes on start up, but runs very nice cold and warm. Still, it can't go forever. A/C is disabled.

As I mentioned, the nicest part of the car is the inside. No problems. What does a car like this actually bring?

I think you're looking at closer to $10k for a car that needs an imminent rebuild.

geshaghi, after more thought you're probably right. Its not just the motor, with those miles other things are just worn out too.

So, does anyone have real numbers rather than speculating? The title asks for actual figures. TIA

As an example, a friend who happens to be a Porsche mechanic on the east coast purchased a Targa (87 or 88) in good shape for less than $10k within the last month. Car was well maintained and had a few little issues that he has fixed on his own with a couple of hundred dollars of parts and a few hours of his time. I looked like a pretty good deal to me. Last year, another friend bought an 85 with less than 90,000 miles from a dealer for $12k. You may want to check closed eBay auctions to see what kind of prices these are bringing. I think a lot depends on how fast you want to sell the car too.

I bought my '88 cab for $10,600 last year. It had 121,000 miles. I have not gotten around to getting a compression/leakdown test, but it runs very well. Yeah, it leaks/consumes a little oil, and needs some bodywork, but I think it was a really good deal. The previous owner wasn't very knowledgeable, plus I think my mid-western location helps prices. I think your mileage will turn some people off, but I'd bet that you could get 12 or 13 grand.
