87 Turbo ?s

My neighbor is in a bit of a desperate place and has offered me his 87 Turbo coupe. He said bring offers.

I dont know much about Turbos and I would not keep it.

It needs some sort of idle control valve which he has but has not been installed. It also needs a good clean up and OEM fuchs re-installed.

Its black on black has a brand new turbo which is an up grade.

Where can I get schooled up on these cars?

And

What is a quick sale price that I could get for this car in this market?

Obviously you will need some additional info. let me know what that is and I will approach him and get it all at once.

Car has roughly 90K miles with no rebuild on the motor.

I will get some pictures.

What else do you need to help out with valuation?

Oh, I want to make him a fair offer - I want to be able to enjoy the car for a few months and then re-sell quickly after I make the re-pairs and additions.

Ah he is rich anyway if he is in your neighbor hood, so just give him a tiny amount. Seriously I am no help on pricing. Turbo's were out of my range and 30K was what the ones I saw sell for.

I am thinking low ball him $15K and back date it with out color change and some of the 17" Alton Fuchs :-)

I am sure I would lose my butt.

I have to treat him with respect because he is a neighbor AND a big wig at the IRS :-0

Did't make it, it was raining pretty good this morning. Thought about taking the 914 but I am still one seal short of staying dry on rainy days.
Better not make the "man" made then. Looking forward to a ride in it.

from what i have been seeing the past year shoping 930s, i would say 30 if everything is sound....depends too much on overall condition..could be a mid 20s car easily if the motor is tired.

post on the 930 board for more opinions.

data point: on the pelican cars f/s board, an 89 930 ~54k miles looked nice just sold for $30K.

I think the price of that 89 does not reflect the true market, IMO that was a huge fire sale

maybe. but it is a real world data point. it did have aftermarket boxed rockers, side vents and total repaint which in my opinion drug it down maybe 10%.

At least 10% a clean straight no paint no issues 89 turbo with those miles would go for more than 10% higher

Yah that was low for a 5 speed with not too many miles. The boxed rockers kill them for me.

Yah I would think that if that car was unmolested and in excellent condition it would be ~$45-$50K car???

Really too nice to drive much....

As it was it is only worth a similar 4 speed car with out the molestations :-)

I think a good- decent condition 89 turbo coupe with those miles would bring high high 30's low 40's in this market

From what I have seen, in todays market an 87 with 90K plus, even in good condition is going to be high 20's, maybe low 30's if interior is really nice, sport seats and exterior is very good. I would not pay high 30's for that car.

High 30s??? Are you talking about the 89 or the 87?

He has a sign on it right now for $27K. He is working on the ICV and a few other things then we will get pics up etc. Oh it does have an aftermarket muffler...REMUS maybe??

I agree with the others, box rockers and rear wheel vents or other mods lowers the value. I am looking for another 930 only because I want to leave my 89 close to original and you can buy a nice 930 for quite a bit less than 2 years ago.

i agree the external comstic add ons and repaint would hurt the value. if there are the typical performane mods/upgrades made to the engine (larger turbo, intercooler, exhaust, boost spring etc.) on a low mileage car what does that do to value?
