Porsche 911 turbo shop in Nashville area?
I"m new to the forum and glad I found it. WE moved to the Nashville area about 5 years ago and have been looking for a good, qualified and honest Porsche shop other than the Porsche of Nashville. I like finding small shops with in the community to work on my car. I have a 1986 911 turbo and currently I need an A/C charge (yep R12) mine is working but not much cooler than the outside air. I have a few other things to look in to as well and I have not been able to find a local shop, so, I thought I'd ask here for help.

You might try Wicky Lawrie of RENNTAG MOTORWERKS, INC. He did a ppi for me, good job, good communication, and was reasonable.

If Memphis is not too far for you - then you should try Pat Williams German Auto. All he works on is Porsches and he is well known for his engine/turbro work - as well as general maintenace/repair work.

Hi David,
Also new to Nashville. Been here 2 years. The following name was given to me by the local PCA chapter tech person: Renntag Motorwerks 319 Homestead Road Nashville, TN 37207 615-226-4928 (shop) 615-228-7774 (fax) wickylawrie@mindspring.com As I understand, Wicky was trained at Brumos Porsche. I have not used him yet. Cheers, Vince |

Hello Vincer77 Thanks for the reply and I did call Wicky, what a nice guy, I am arranging to take my car up to him when he has some time and he said he can take care of all my needs, he was very knowledgeable and seems very fair... so, I"ll have to post my results when I"m finished with everything. Where did you move from? We moved from Southern California... We were PCA members quite a few years back but the car has been stored for petty much the last 5 years so, it's time to get back involved I guess..
Thanks again for the info and to the other folks that have responded here as well. |

How about attending a local PCA meeting and asking the guys there. You don't have to join, "just visiting."

Hal, good Morning, That is a great idea and yea that is what we should do.. I"ll have to check out the local Nashville chapter. we were PCA memebers in CA years ago, but we just stopped driving the car and now living in Tennessee there are so many neat places to drive we want to get it out and going...
I did although get a great tip from some of the guys here and I am setting up and appointment to take my care to Wicky in the next week or so.. I"m sure he will do a great job.. I notice you live in NC, one of the trips we would like to make is a trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee to Ashville, I think that would be a nice couple day trip for us. |

My brother lives in Nashville and he loves it. Hope you feel the same. I know it is different than CA!
BRP is a great drive with wonderful scenery. Just realize the speed limit in most areas is 35 and the patrol is pretty serious. Plan for a relaxed drive!

We love the Nashville area, we are about 20 miles east, so were close enough to down town to make it easy to get in and out, but were out in the country as to not deal with the big city!
Thanks for the tip on the BRP, that is good info, not sure when we can get to go, but hopefully we will get the car all checked out ,fluids and oil changed and hit the road. Thanks again for the reply.. Dave |

Glad that it worked out with Wicky. We moved two years ago from Orange County. We really enjoy living in Nashville. We are south near Franklin. I am looking to purchase my first Porsche. The choices are an early pre-73 S-targa, a 993 Cab or, I just took a drive in a Boxster S and it was quite enjoyable, so it is in the running now. I know it is quite a range to consider.
pre-73 - Probaly the best choce as it is a car that is likely to appreciate. But may not want to use very often. It rains quite a bit around here and the targa tops are known to leak. 993- The air-cooled 911 at it's most advanced development. Probably at it's lowest depreciation. Hard to find in Nashville Boxster S - Pretty inexpensive! I was referred to Wicky, and visited his shop a couple weeks ago. He was quite helpful to me with my search. He told me of another Porsche club, the Tennessee Tubs. It is a 356-oriented group but open to all. Good luck, Vince |

In general I've found that the shops that Tech the cars for the PCA events are usually pretty good.
